I kinda noticed this a few times recently, after the GE change: underdog with bad ratings and inferior players winning games which theoretically seem like they shouldn't win. Last season I also had a 30k C in my U21 get schooled by a C who earned less than 10k (note my guy had 14 and above in IS/ID/RB, and his game shape was always between strong and proficient throughout the season). I didn't really think much (despite having a few unexplained losses) until last night's game against NZ U21, where I was actually on the winning side.
(59735)Our second most expensive player would rank 7th in salary on their team, while our third most expensive player would rank second last.
Ratings also showed quite a discrepancy in rebounding and inside scoring.
All the players had respectable GS (so GS isn't an issue) and both of us probably have the worst enthusiasm (coz of call-ups and scouting).
So... How did I even win? Does anyone else find that the current game engine is more random than the previous one?
