Hello all,

As a returning player, I notice that there were some improvements, which were quickly hidden behind a pay wall, after a few weeks.

There are many great features for supporters, which I do intend to 'support' myself at a later time. What I can't understand is why basic functions like shortlisting players are hidden behind this pay wall.

Apologies, if this has been discussed before.
Giants.

Hey Giants,

Shortlisting players is just a quality of life improvement and definitely not a basic function in my eye. All players compete on perfectly equal terms regardless of financially supporting BB or not. As long as it remains like this there's no reason to complain I believe. Especially since it's pretty affordable to get those few perks.

Cheers,
P

Hi P,

Thanks for replying and explaining the broader context to me.

When I played the game between 2009 to 2012, I used to leave tabs open to return to at a later time and set alarms to remember to bid for players at the due time.

At the time, this was fine. For new players in 2024, however, the fact that a formal shortlist function is hidden behind a paywall seems somewhat antiquated. It is not a question of quality of life or fairness, it is a question of accessibility, with specific comparison to other modern apps.

I do strongly agree that support offers excellent benefits for a small payment and I intend to join when my team is a little better.

Best,
Giants

The private league, customised team options, and having a second team - hopefully in my home country - are nice reasons to support the site, beyond what it offers for free.

Well observed. I don't recall complaining about that, however 'bro'.

In my eyes it doesn't make sense to put QoL features behind a paywall. You need QoL to prevent users from abandoning your game because it's a pain to play. It's a hygiene factor, not a nice extra. Things like forum search, sending and keeping messages, bookmarks should all be basic functionality accessible to everyone. I would assume not having this is losing the owners more users/money than it provides from users paying for supporter they wouldn't otherwise pay for.

Generally you're right, but I think BuzzerBeater is the odd one out. I'm a digital product designer so I defo understand the importance of the points you made, but I doubt this game ever lost an otherwise active user because of not being able to write very very long messages and such.

Bookmarking is the only stand out feature that isn't just a minor perk for supporters, but my assumption is that making it available for every user would only see BB lose supporters (due to one big reason less to be one) rather than gain supporters (or free users even). Since there isn't a real BB competitor with better user experience we can only assume the aftermath of such decisions. Still, I firmly believe that in the grand scheme of things (to drive in more people daily, to generate more income) not having these functions available to all have zero impact, no matter how essential they are.

But all new QoL features (e.g auto-bid) being free points to the right direction. Maybe I shouldn't argue against making these features accessible at all, but my honest opinion is that becoming a supporter is the best and a perfectly sufficient solution to the problem. It's the wrong attitude to tell others where to spend their money, but really, the plans are fairly priced
