What Is A Home-Grown Team?

For those managers who do not know what a Home-Grown team is, this is a very brief explanation.

You have a Home-Grown (HG) Team when every player on your team was either 1) gifted to you in your first BB team when you first signed into BB, or 2) Drafted by your team. You cannot have any other players that do not adhere to this; if even 1 player on your team does not meet either of these, then you do not have a HG team unless they are removed (fired or sold)

Who chooses to have a HG team?
Generally, it is more experienced managers or managers who like to be challenged.

Why should I manage a HG Team?
Those managers choosing to create, maintain, or switch to a HG team do so for a variety of reasons. Despite their reasons, they understand that maintaining a HG team is more challenging and, as a result, more rewarding. A sound knowledge of how to train players is highly beneficial given that you cannot buy players on the transfer market (the exception to this is when you purchase a player from the transfer market whom you either fired or sold previously; these players are still considered HG). Therefore, in order to promote, you will need to train all the players your club will need. This is what makes having a HG team more challenging and more fun. There are plenty of little bonuses along the way by running a HG team.

Given that you are no longer buying players, you will likely have more cash. More cash means that you can purchase better trainers, build your arena quicker, and add important infrastructures like Gyms and Training Courts to name a few. There is also the increased income through merchandise as you have ‘home-grown’ talent only now. You will also be joining a growing community of HG Teams.

Can I turn my current team into a HG team?
Yes! The moment your team consists only of gifted and/or drafted players, you are a HG Team!

Are there many HG Teams? Where can I find out More?
Yes, there are many! Please check out this latest thread to learn more (324689.1)

Thanks for the good explanation.

One question. Currently my "Homegrown & Locals" revenue is around 15% of the total merch rev. 8 of my 12 players are homegrown, but to be fair, my two best players were purchased from the market. So, how high does the share of this category rise in a totally homegrown team?

To be honest...I'm not entirely sure. I do know that U21 NT and NT players receive nice merch bumps and a 100% Homegrown team sees their merch continue to rise. I think I read somewhere that the longer the players are on the team, the merch also rises.

Sorry for the vague reply. I am fairly new to the HG thing and helping others create a HG League atm. Hopefully, this will help me learn more about the intricacies of running a HG team.

If you go to this thread (324689.1) you will find some HG Managers who I'm sure would be able to answer your question. Managers such as LOPO (141176), Wagner (172501) or demars (87312).

Kind regards.

maybe more experienced HG managers can tell details regarding revenue.

I can tell you my Homegrown & Locals for 1st and 2nd team:

1st team divII Poland 11 HG players out of 13:
Homegrown & Locals=35 458$ (HG salaries >300k, non HG salaries ~172k)

2nd team divIII Utopia 10 HG players out of 12"
Homegrown & Locals=24 343$ (HG salaries ~285k, non HG salaries ~67k)

Having allstar player can bring +10k for most part of season so being partially HG isn't that much overpowered.
I think being fully HG can bring a lot of cash(tickets, jerseys, HG revenue).....

I also purchased two polish guys(~80k&65k salary) last seasons for 1st team for Locals revenue.
It wasn't big difference(than any other country).
So I would never do that again(it was not that easy to found them, depsite Poland being large community with a lot of players).

In my case ~85k homegrown salary yields 9.6k Homegrown & Locals rev.
You get back 8-11% of the salaries, it seems. Not bad.. more would be better.

HG & Local merchandise is based on the proportion of your team's salaries from home grown and local player, and is a bonus to your Team Sales base merchandise.

The estimate I've always used (which is close but not exact) is that Local (same nation as your team but not drafted by your team) salaries count 1x and Homegrown salaries count 1.5x in the numerator, and then divide by your team's total salaries to get the HG&L merch scale

So if you have 100k in total salaries
50k from local players
30k from homegrown players
20k from foreign players

Then the factor would be (50k + 30k * 1.5) / (100k) = 0.95.

And if you had 20k Team Sales, then the HG&L merch would be approximately 19k.

I know from actual data with my team that the estimate this comes up with isn't exactly right (it's usually slightly low for my team), but it's a close enough estimate to give you an idea to budget with.
