The season long-awaited by cunning linguists everywhere is finally upon us! Greetings, all. And special greetings to Sofuegg, first team I ever played in the NBBA, and Sauk Centre Gofers the only other team I've ever played (Cup S65). I haven't scouted much yet, but I'm hoping to set up camp here for a few seasons until my training program gets off the ground again. I'm looking forward to matches with you all and keeping the forums a little lively. I hope everybody has a fun season!

Welcome to the league! There's a few of us (me and Chiefers, especially) that have been here for a while... I'm finally moving on from some long-tenured guards and rebuilding a bit, so it'll be an interesting season for me too

Hey hey sorry for not monitoring the chat closer. It’s certainly funny how this league has changed. Something like from season 63-67 I’d bet this league was one of the most competitive in all of Buzzerbeater. It was cutthroat with 6-7 Great 8 teams all being extremely good and with a couple losses of each other. Conversely due to relegation, Big 8 probably had 2 dominant teams, 2 good teams and the rest medicore. But for 5 seasons straight this felt like true purgatory. It’s an actually funny looking now how much the league has changed with Fenway, myself, and Telecasters earning tenure status.

It’s also funny seeing how Fenway, myself, and Telecaster’s strategies have changed over the years. Candidly, I did a hard pivot and am sorta in no man’s land. I was half attempting to be relegated but now I’m not sure that’s the move.

This message board was also much more chirpy back in the “ol days”.

This made me look back at the league's history and some of the storied teams and friends who've been through this league in the last 25 seasons:

California Supreme (trainer of NT contributors)
Sofuegg (former NBBA squad, still here)
WHAIGH (BB-Will's team)
In your face (former NBBA constant)
US DAGGERS (only US team to win three BBM trophies)
Alaska Alphas (Trainer of Jeff Amos)
Tucumcari Whalers (Former NBBA powerhouse)
Baker Street Irregulars (GM and player for 62 seasons)
ElectricTriangles (friend, NT trainer)
Vanaheim Norse (my former mentor)
southpaw army (my former NBBA foe)
High Point Heroes (8 in all-time NBBA wins)
Arizona Desert Storm (21 in all-time NBBA wins)
LionPride (newly minted NBBA team)
Desert Eagles (former NBBA Runner-up)
Upsyndrome (former dominant top USA team)

Must be a good place to launch from!

similar case here - my guard core aged well out of their prime before I ever got over the hump when the Great 8 was at peak competition, and now I'm debating whether I try a soft reset or fully tank

that's pretty cool to see how many teams have cycled through on their way up or down... I think I tend to make personnel changes a bit too slowly in this game 😂

Season 69 Power Rankings (after five games) (Courtesy of ChatGPT)

1. Hemet Hooligans (5–0, +141 PD)
Undefeated with the league’s best point differential, Hemet dominates on both ends. They lead in FG% and are second in scoring and rebounding. Borko Tešić and Pavel Vojtko power this deep, efficient squad.

2. Telecasters (4–1, +70 PD)
Elite shooters and passers, the Telecasters top the league in FT% and rank second in team rating. Johnny Hellerud leads a smart, balanced team that plays winning basketball.

3. Lucky Leprechaun (3–2, –26 PD)
Despite a negative differential, their shooting and efficiency rank top-three. Nico Kerremans scores 24.2 PPG with 5.2 APG. With more defense, they’re a contender.

4. Chiefers (4–1, +26 PD)
Second in assists and rebounds, the Chiefers thrive on ball movement and physical play. Joseph Benton and Vinzenz Räztsch lead a disciplined, team-first squad.

5. La Crosse Slammers (3–2, +3 PD)
Led by Winston Frantz and Hamza Salem, La Crosse tops the league in rebounds and plays tough defense. A gritty, playoff-ready team.

6. Fenway Flyers (2–3, –3 PD)
Storm Wilson and Winston Block score over 22 PPG, and Andrew Lowe dishes 7.8 APG. Strong in assists and rebounds, they’re better than their record.

7. Bay Harbor Butchers (4–1, +11 PD)
Not flashy, but tough. Janusz Wiktorski’s 12.8 RPG powers the top rebounding team. Javier Guraya leads a scrappy offense.

8. Persevering Pride (2–3, –27 PD)
Carlos Dempsey scores 27.2 PPG, but the team lacks rebounding and depth. Strong shooting keeps them competitive.

9. Ballers (2–3, –8 PD)
Jorge Alfredo Rocha and Magnus Jansson dominate the glass. Inconsistent scoring and turnovers hold them back.

10. Sauk Centre Gofers (2–3, –22 PD)
Burak Güleç scores a league-best 32.6 PPG, but poor team support and low assists make this a one-man show.

11. A.C. Gamblers (2–3, +9 PD)
Martin Bullock leads a balanced team with a positive differential. Lacking stars, but deep and steady.

12. Clarkston Wolves (1–4, –29 PD)
Good shooting from Korey Story and Joe Towns, but poor defense and rebounding keep them from closing games.

13. Sofuegg (1–4, –29 PD)
Fadil Hegazy grabs 19.4 RPG, and Ezio Murgia adds size, but they struggle to score efficiently despite leading in rebounds.

14. Bluemoon Griffins (2–3, –28 PD)
Cary Vail rebounds well, but the offense is the worst in the league. Shooting woes plague their chances.

15. Taichung City BC (2–3, –48 PD)
Ruediger Klawitter leads the league in assists (8.2), but the team is last in scoring. Poor rebounding and FG% hurt them.

16. The Orchestra (1–4, –39 PD)
Piero Manzoni (30.6 PPG) and Giuliano Allegrezza (23.0 PPG) score big, but awful team efficiency and no bench make them bottom-tier.

Manzoni was robbed of a spot in the all-star game! Top vote-getter to not get rostered. Lame! More votes than Benton or Hoffmann! Ima boycott... lol

Also, Great 8 gonna get smashed on Tuesday, right?

Sometimes the all star stuff confuses me. I have 4 guys on the 10 person team - I’m not complaining, I hope that gets me a nice merch boost the rest this season.

In terms of pts, rebounds, and assists leaders… I only have 1 player appear on that list and it’s just for pts.

My guy that got the starting point guard spot (and most votes of anyone at that position), isn’t even my intended PG (tho he has played a lot there this season). Ironically a few seasons ago in this very league, he was an all star at SF or PF and at that time, I considered him my 5th best player.

I have not figured out what is highly valued for all star status.

📊 Season 69 Power Rankings after 15 games (thanks to Chat GPT)

🏆 Tier 1: Elite Contenders

1. Hemet Hooligans (13–2, +323 PD)
The most dominant all-around team. They control the glass, shoot efficiently (.481 FG), and play stifling defense. With Tešić and Alderman inside, they’re a nightmare matchup.

2. Telecasters (13–2, +299 PD)
The league’s most efficient offense (104.8 PPG) and second-best defense. Hellerud and Gassol anchor a disciplined roster. They match Hemet blow for blow and may be the truest title favorite.

3. Lucky Leprechaun (12–3, +188 PD)
With Castrón and Kerremans leading the way, Lucky combines perimeter firepower with free-throw efficiency (.865). They can outscore anyone, though they’re slightly less balanced than the top two.

4. La Crosse Slammers (11–4, +276 PD)
The league’s best rebounding team (54.4 RPG). They lack a true star scorer but wear opponents down with second-chance points and physicality. A tough playoff out.

⭐ Tier 2: Strong Playoff Teams
5. Bay Harbor Butchers (11–4, +99 PD)
A well-rounded squad led by Wiktorski and Norwood. They grind out wins but may not have the top-end talent to survive deep playoff series against elite squads.

6. Persevering Pride (8–7, –28 PD)
Carlos Dempsey (24.6 PPG) keeps them competitive, but the roster is thin. They’re dangerous if Dempsey catches fire, but inconsistency limits their ceiling.

7. Chiefers (8–7, –79 PD)
Efficient guards (Queen, Kefalontis) and good passing (20.6 AST) give them offensive punch. Their negative differential raises questions about playoff staying power.

⚡ Tier 3: Fringe Playoff / Upset Threats

8. Ballers (10–5, +137 PD)
A high-variance squad powered by Jansson and Rocha. Strong offensive surges make them dangerous, but lapses on defense keep them below the top tier.

9. Clarkston Wolves (7–8, +40 PD)
Better than their record shows, with Korey Story and Joe Towns forming a lethal backcourt duo. Defense is shaky, but they can spring an upset on the right night.

10. Bluemoon Griffins (5–10, –81 PD)
Cary Vail provides leadership, and their rebounding (51.1 RPG) is solid. But atrocious shooting (.358 FG) undermines their competitiveness.

🚨 Tier 4: Struggling Teams
11. Sauk Centre Gofers (5–10, –131 PD)
Burak Güleç (26.2 PPG) is one of the league’s most dangerous scorers. Unfortunately, the supporting cast can’t defend or rebound well enough to make them competitive consistently.

12. Fenway Flyers (4–11, –124 PD)
Wilson and Gobbett still bring skill, but the roster has fallen off. They pass well (21.3 AST) but don’t defend or score efficiently.

13. Sofuegg (5–10, –168 PD)
Fadil Hegazy is a rebounding machine (13.8 RPG), but the offense is broken (.389 FG, .290 3PT). They struggle to keep up against almost anyone.

14. Taichung City BC (4–11, –287 PD)
Weakest defense in the league (105.1 PA) paired with a bottom-tier offense. They fight hard but lack talent and depth.

15. A.C. Gamblers (2–13, –164 PD)
No true identity this season. Near the bottom in both scoring and defense. They’re headed for relegation.

16. The Orchestra (2–13, –300 PD)
Piero Manzoni (32.0 PPG) is brilliant, but he’s surrounded by one of the weakest supporting casts in the league. They’re last in both offensive and defensive rating.
