hey i have been playing the game for a few seasons now and i have recently been looking at the scoring after the game, i just have a couple of questions that i would love if you could answer for me.
MIN 48
FG 7 - 14
3FG 3 - 4
FT 1 - 2
pts 18
now i know that
FG
means 2 points and
FT
means free throw but does
3FG
mean 3 points.
if so then wouldnt the score be 21 as there was
7 2 pointers = 14
3 3 pointers = 6
1 ft = 1
total = 21
can someone please explain this to me properly, i am really confused.
cheers

3FG are 3 points shots but FG are
all
shots. So if you wanted to break it down you went
FG 7-14
2pt 4-10 = 8
3pt 3-4 = 9
= 17
and the free throw makes 18

I've seen this question hundreds of times. I am pretty sure NBA keeps stats in a slightly different format then internationally which is why the mistake tends to be made.

I don't think so. I believe the NBA scores it the same way that BB does. Here is a boxscore from last season:
STARTERS M FG 3FG FT OR TR A TO STL BLK PF PTS
K. Bryant, SG 43 7-22 3-9 5-5 1 3 1 4 1 0 1 22
L. Odom, PF 40 2-8 0-1 10-16 0 10 5 3 0 0 4 14
P. Gasol, C 32 4-7 0-0 3-4 0 8 2 5 0 0 3 11
D. Fisher, PG 28 2-4 0-2 3-3 0 0 4 1 0 0 5 7
V. Radmanovic, SF 22 2-6 2-6 0-0 0 3 0 0 0 0 5 6
Kobe had 7 fg, 3 3's, and 5 FT for a total of 22, which means he must have hit 4 2-pointers and 3 three-pointers.
Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.
