After the training update of today finally took place, I noticed that my GS training had no effect at all. Is that a bug?

No, I do not think it is a bug, just strange game design. During the first training of the season GS does not change, not even if you train GS.

I don't have a clue why, and I don't think it is stated in the rules either. The reason I think it is like that is that GM-Kozlodoev stated that in (40617.489).
