How many players should I keep on my roster?

I currently have fifteen and I am using about ten in games.

I believe people vary between 12 and 15 players. Some people use 3 players in the positions they're training and 2 players in the other positions. Others use 3 players in every position.

If you are playing 3 games every week, you may be getting too many minutes with some of your 10 players, and their game shape will suffer. There is also a risk of injury in scrimmages. So you probably want a few more than 10.

With 15, it may be difficult to keep all 15 in good game shape. And a backup with bad game shape and less skills will get pulled out of games, and your better players may still get too many minutes. You might stick with 15 for a couple of weeks, and if you see that a player is playing 0 or just a few minutes per week, sell of fire them.

Does scrimmage matches count as time on the court and do players get training with those games?

Scrimmages do not have any economic effects. They don't cost anything, but they don't bring in any revenue. The fans don't care how you do. They have no effect on enthusiasm.

So they are basically for:

(1) Getting additional training minutes.
(2) Keeping your players game shape up (by playing 50 to 80 minutes per week).
(3) Experimenting with lineups and tactics.
