I assume that users have created their own formulas for rating players, rating skills based on position.

NO ONE at this table ordered a rum & Coke
Charles: Penn has some good people
A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score
Any five are live

I have a spreadsheet with values assigned to different skills dependent on position which gives me a number result. I plug in the players' ratings and I can compare, by position, where the best fit for that player is based on deviations above the mean and stuff like that.

It was just something I whipped up so that I could stop playing by "feel" and have some quantitative measure to work with. It might be fine tuned later on, but I've been happy with how it's worked for me so far.

Hope that answers your question.

For the manager like me who is not quite into the game of BB this is hard to understand. The only guide I use is the Newbie thread posted by BudLarry. Do you find this thread as an accurate one? For example... about the point guard:

(1) Handling, Passing
(2) Outside Defense, Driving
(3) Jump Shot, Jump Range, Inside Shot

this means that Primary Skills are handling and passing, as secondary outside defense and driving and tertiary skills jump shot, jump range and inside shot?

And with the equation it would be something like this:

PointGuard_BasicRating=5*(handling + passing) + 3*(outside defense + driving) + 2*(js+jr+is)

Also you should calculate the game shape level and experience, i suppose.

My saying is that I need some formula for each position. I am not very experienced manager and I do need help. Can you give me some directions how to develop a formula? Should I trust the Newbie threads? Is there a formula that most of the managers agree that it works (if so, where to find)?

if you find it please tell it to me, but normally the right skills are highly influenced by tactic and opponent. We try to make one for our National team for preselection, but honestly the result ain't that fine.

In my opion the newbie guides underates defense, in enarly all position but especially the guards, andoverated a bit handling which i don't find that important then passing. And i'm sure if you ask other experienced managers, then won't agree with my or larry opion and ade alos some changes for themselves.

I've written some longer posts about this just now in a new thread in the General Forum - see here (46657.1)

That new thread will end up being very fruitful (I would hope), so this one is...
