How would you know that a player has reached his full potential? if I see a young player that can only become a bench player, yet is good enough for my 4th division team at this point, how can I know whether he has reached already his full potential, or I can still train him and improve him for a while?

Is there a way to know besides trying to train him and discovering that he does not go up as quikly as he is supposed to?

P.S. I know I am not suppose to base my training on such a player, and I'm not.
Still, I would like to know if I have any benefits from training him.

even if he's reached his potential soft cap he'll never stop training it'll just slow down.

I understand that, but do I have a way to know what does it mean Starter, Bench player, announcer, etc.?
In term of qualities - can I know what level is he in at a given time?

I would imagine most players of a certain "potential" would only be able to quickly reach a certain number when you sum their skill levels. I.E. a 6th man might only be able to accrue 60-70 "points" when adding up their skills. However, there is no way of knowing as of yet because nothing has been revealed, no one has initiated such a study and the potential levels haven't been around long enough to reach the caps.

"potential" was introduced at the start of season 5 (1-1/2 seasons ago). Existing players were given an "All Star*" potential, with the asterisk indicating these existing players, so there is not much experience with the actual impact of the potential limits.

Potential has been described as a soft cap, which while not preventing improvement, creates resistance. It would be reasonable when the soft cap was first encountered that training would only be slowed down a small amount (say 5%) so it might be that that players with the extreme lowest potentials might be slowed a bit, but not being noticed, and perhaps when you training him another 3 levels that there would be much greater slowdown.

Also potential has been indicated to slow the overall improvement based on a combination of skills, rather than being a limit on each skills. This could mean that you could develop a player in different ways before being slowed down. Depending on how it is implemented, it might mean that you will see different slowdowns based on the combination of skills and what you are training.

Thank you.

It gives me a much better understanding of the issue, so thanks a lot.
