I think I remember reading somewhere that if you train one attribute much higher than the others, it will be a problem for you in training the other attributes later on.

Example: Proficient REB, all other attributes mediocre...

How would this be a problem in training?
Or did I misunderstand?

GM-JuicePats puts it like this: (381.738). So in your example it would be Rebound training that would slow down, not the training of the mediocre skills.

makes sense, however, several people in that post disputed his statement and talked of the exact opposite- that their primary skill kept going higher...

For the other training types, players will improve more quickly not only with additional playing time, but also a more skilled player will improve more quickly. For example, a great inside defender and rebounder will find it easier to improve his shot blocking than a poor inside defender and poor rebounder would.
