Say I'm training PF/C or PG/SG or something similar that trains two either inside or outside players.

Is it better to have 5 trainees all get 48+ minutes (with all of them going over by a little to a lot). Or have 6 trainees and try to get as many of them close to 48 minutes, but some going over and some going under each week?

Thanks,

Steve

I just trained a positional skill for the first time, and had two bumps, one for a player with 60 minutes and one for a player with 29 minutes. Of course, that might be entirely luck related to one having a large fraction of the next skill to start with.

Given that there is not supposed to be a bonus for going over 48, there would have to be an extremely huge penalty for coming up short, for it to hurt very much.

And I don't really see any reason for it. If someone who only plays 5 minutes, gets 10% of the training what is the problem? And there is reasonable risk associated with your top 2 guards only playing 48 minutes (say 24 minutes in each of the league games). If they played 36 minutes in each you might win, and if they only play 24, you might lose.

Maybe some GM would give us more clear information about if it's better to train 40 minutes than for example 55. I think it's still better to train 6 players (if there's almost no difference between training 45 mins and 48), because you'll proably get slightly less training (if you aren't lucky), but it's still more economical to have 1 more player trained...it's very important to know if 48 mins is just a point of the best training or very important "line" that makes a big difference between trained players.

If I recall correctly, 48 mins is a very important "line"...

I believe that is correct also, that coming short of 48 carries a rather large penalty.

It's not a system where 24 minutes is 50% training, 36 is 75%, and so on.

So I'm better off making sure I get 5 guys 48 minutes and the 6th only if the others max out?

That would be my opinion, yes. But that's just an opinion...

I think that this would be the best decision.
I always look on the weekly stats - I think the line marks which player gets 100% training

Do scrimmages count for training time?

if that is the case, then the "Ideal Roster Size" is more like 12-14, not 15-18 as has been suggested.
As an example, I have a player who has 47 minutes and another who has 45 minutes after two league games. my plans are not to play them in the scrimmage and let a sub get alot more minutes. If I should not do this, then I guess I should sell/fire my 14-18 players to make sure everyone gets 48 minutes.

Remember that TRAINING is 48+.

Game Shape (formerly PTW) "should" have 48+ minutes, but I'd rather have the extra guys to soak up scrimmage minutes if needed.

Your financial situation also may dictate what you do.
