In the game engine, does the engine check first to see if a shot is blocked, or randomly assign a block to some of the missed shots?

I would assume that the game engine would have to look at a defenders blocking ability and not just randomly assign blocks to missed shots.

IMHO, I'm not sure shot blocking is all that important relatively to other inside skills -- the number of blocked shots seems small and seems like rebounding & inside shot are more worthwhile skills.

It's still crucial to train Shot Blocking, as that ensures that skills are raised in a balanced manner.

If a player has unbalanced skills (relating to inside or outside), they will train more slowly.

NOTE - This is just a theory - a strongly believed theory, but just a theory

Very bad assumption to make. Many games do just that thus making the blocking skill a pointless piece of chrome.
