I know every players first instinct when the start their buzzerbeater careers in always to train inside shot or jump shot. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who started by training defense instead of offenses and if they'e had success what are the pros and cons? Here's my team (24900)

i have bean training OD for the all season until now and it worked good i am in a 9 wins straight in my league and manage to kip teams with an average of over 110 points a game under 80-75 points so you tell me...

ahhh just the reassurance i was looking for! I am new this game but I know basketball and I know offense wins games defense wins championships. So I'm going to train my OD and ID for the remainder of the season. Unless there is any opposition?....

Usually you should only train one or two positions that use similar skill sets. Most people do PF/C or PG/SG. Only train the skills that are relevant to your trainees and make sure training is set only to those positions.

You can also train your whole team if you like. Visible improvement might not be as fast, but it's possible to have a decent team without the standard training regimen.

Come on mate.. this is a view which is not supported by any of the seasoned managers here....

I would like to suggest any training regime other than this giving MUCH faster improvement. It may involve you having to use the transfer market to sell surplus trainees and upgrade non-training positions.

The only time you would consider this is really if you had no wild aspirations or if as SteveKarem puts it 'if you are in a country with no competitiveness'. ;-)

Show me 1 team that has copied your approach to training that has ever been promoted?!

What specifally do you have in mind? Have a look at my team (24900).
These are the players I plan to focus my training on (7802534), (7783364), (7783379), (7802545)

tough to say.. as you have 2 PG's and 2 Centres all varying in height.... 3 are star potential and 1 Butler perennial... without knowing the stats maybe Butler is the one to go for.... are the 2 Centres worth anything on the TL ? if so what about selling and then replacing with older guys with more exp?
Then spend all the money you have on 1 more decent guard trainee...

You then have 3 guards.

Butler priority 1 or 2
New guard - priority 1 or 2 then
Queneville priority 3.

Now look at the 1 position training options. You have Passing and Pressure (which improves Outside defence.)

Playing your 2 league games and scrimmage you should get Butler and new guard at or above 48mins in the PG position then hopefully as close to 48 for Queneville.

Doing this for a season I would train Outside defence up to proficient (i would hope or buy a trainee with Mediocre at worst - if they havent got it maybe consider trading up before starting this regime) and also passing up to strong. On weeks the training minutes are tough to juggle you can use PG/SG Jump shot or the 2 position Pressure or passing.

BUT TRY AND STICK TO ONE POSITION TRAINING.

If you are sucessful cashing in your big men and exchanging for older players your guards will soon become more valuable and you can decide to either encash one (most likely Queneville) and then use this money to either strengthen other parts of your squad or re-invest into an even better trainee.... Butler or your old new guy (if that makes sense!) drops to priority 3 and you repeat the process taking the guys up to prominent/prolific OD and Prolifc passing... sell 1 of the 3 etc etc

I would appreciate a contrary option that Kazzam may like to consider by another longer term BB manager....

Does this change anything to you?

I support it and GM-Lord of Doom supports it. I am not a seasoned day-trading automaton and I can't answer for Lord of Doom, but he is a GM.

My only anecdotal evidence is that there are three good teams in Thailand. Up to now one trained big men extensively and has monster big men. One trained SG only and has legendary jump shooters. I train this and that and have won titles in 3 of 4 seasons. My aspirations are to have fun and waste time. I couldn't care less whether people are looking down their long Roman noses at me because of that or not.

No one knows yet when players stop improving. I have 24 year olds who continue to improve. Your team didn't get good by astute training. You did it by fortuitous skilltrading, which is how most good managers did it.
