In RL basketball teams which drives more and have overall inside focus tend to get more free throws. BB is a game of matchups so you can try to send your best offensive option against their defensively weakest/most fouling player - not out of position completely of course - however your opponent can sett different line up than you expect. I'm not if this works but it could.
Second, there is no specific way to "increase your FT attempts". Players do have a hidden physicality rating, which determines their propensity to foul and be fouled. So you when you purchase players you can concentrate on those who foul more and shoot more fouls, though I'd call this strategy questionable at best.
Either way, if you opponents are superior defensively, they're not going to foul you.
That only tends to be true, but it is definately not a hard fast rule. Becuase of what you stated above and because of sending winning team to a chrity stripe at the end of game anyway.
