The Toronto Raptors have agreed to send Jermaine O'Neal and Jamario Moon to the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks, league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

Sounds OK to me. Marion's only on the hook for this year, and Banks for longer, but not a ton of money.

For sure. As far as ballast to make salaries work in a trade, his contract isn't that horrendous. That's all.

The deal also calls for the Heat to land a conditional future first-round pick and for Toronto to get the league's maximum allowed in cash considerations ($3 million).

OK, if that condition can be met and results in anything in the top 20, then I don't like this at all for the Raptors.

If they can get Marion back at a serious discount next year then I actually really like this deal. Otherwise they are badly going to wish for that pick back.

What a horrible trade for us! Just for those who don't know, this is what was given up by Toronto:

Jermaine O'Neal, Jamario Moon, Conditional 1st Round Draft Pick

This was given up by Miami:

Shawn Marion, Marcus Banks, Money (I'm not sure on the amount)

Now you can just tell how bad this is for us. Marion and O'Neal are maybe at the same level, but Moon is just so much better than Banks and has a much lower salary! Not to mention we're losing a future 1st round pick. Let's take a second to look at each players season statistics and salary (cost and length):

Once you've looked at all of this, you can generally say that Marion and O'Neal's statistics are generally the same, besides the 6.4 more minutes that Marion plays a game. However O'Neal's salary is about $4.5 million more. And then Banks has much worse statistics than Moon, and Moon's salary is about $3.5 million lower then Banks'.

I'm pretty unclear on why Banks and Moon were involved in the deal. And why give away Moon when we could've given away the likes of Solomon.

Then we're even losing a 1st round draft pick, that hurts.

All in all I think that this deal was for Colangelo's liking, not for the team itself. This is because Colangelo drafted Marion and had him in Phoenix 9 years. And Colangelo signed Banks as a free agent. This is not a deal for the team.

We just made a bad deal.

Moon isn't garbage. He gets blocks and is a good rebounder.

This is a pure loss for the Raptors. I don't see what we gain from this.

You are likely very alone on that particular belief. Due to the draft pick I agree that the trade maybe came out in Miami's favor, but based only on the players involved for the rest of the season it is a great deal for Toronto.

How can I possibly believe that Marion and O'Neal are worth the same? Well for starters their statistics are very similar and they're both the same age.

Why would I look at the stats from half of a season and base my analysis on it? Because that shows their current form and what they play like. You need to understand that they're both not what they used to be. This season's statistics are the best thing we have to compare.

Trust me, I am not alone lol. I agree with you that the draft pick was very unnecessary, but if you look at the players we lost and we gained I still think we lost there. I mean Moon was a decent 3 for us, and now we're barely going to use Banks. So now we're wasting money on Banks' salary and probably barely use him. When we did use Moon and he had such a low salary.
