Feel free to discuss anything about the All Star Weekend. :)

Mad ups to Jason Kapono reppin' the raptors! Going for 3rd time 3 point champion!

I think I know what one of Dwight Howard's dunks is going to be. There's this video on youtube where Dwight Howard says he won't give away what he's doing, but he loves dr. So by dr. I'm assuming he means dr. Julius Erving.

I don't know what he's going to do, maybe dunk on Julius, maybe pull a dunk that Julius did back in the day. But I know it's going to have something to do with dr. Julius Erving.

Anyway here's the youtube link:

Now talk, discuss. :)

I am surprised that Howard is even doing the dunk contest again. I saw that interview on ESPN where they ask him why he is doing it again, and that it is a bit unusual for the winner from last year to compete again. He seemed a bit hesitant about it, then he said 'well they asked me to do it again, and it was fun'. Then he mentioned the Dr J thing. The Superman thing was pretty big last year, and Stern is a showman first, lol.

Everyone who is anticipating a Shaq-Kobe mouth off is going to be disappointed, I think. The press has always built that story bigger than it was. Now it is old news for both of them.

Go West!

I'm so disappointed that Kapono didn't 3peat in the 3 point shootout. I think he was over-confident and didn't practice enough. He would become a 3 point legend if he won that.

About the dunk contest. I have one main thing to say, the judges were crap! How can you give a 50 for either of Howard's dunks? And Fernandez only got a 42 for each of his dunks and honestly, they were better than Dwight's. I think it might have something to do with the colour of his skin. Anyway Dwight dunking on a 12 foot net normally, is like Nate dunking on a 10 foot net normally. Nothing special. But Nate dunking on Dwight!! Oooohhhh that was CRAZY!! I think the fans voted correctly.

Go East!

It seems the NBA allstar weekend is more about putting on a show, than it is about sports. The NBA loves Howard, and have been promoting him as a star pretty hardcore last year and this. Remember when Spudd Webb won the slam-dunk contest? His dunks really were nothing special, but they gave it too him because he is so short. Allstar weekend seems a bit like the NBA's version of the Harlem Globetrotters.

I think it developed like that because back then all the dunks were the same. Windmills, 360's and the likes. But I think people got bored and wanted to take it a step further.

I agree. Nothing wrong with it at all. For me the all-star weekend is like a weekend off from basketball. Too much show, not enough basketball. I do like seeing the rookies play though, and the dunks do have a certain 'wow' factor.

It's meant to be fun.

Sports are meant to be fun.

A CT? Really?
Any two will do

Still, I think that the commentators and judges were TOTALLY messed up during the dunk contest (and commentators through the whole thing).

I didnt really watch much of it, I was working the whole weekend. Saw highlights on ESPN. It seems nearly impossible to assign value to various moves in the dunk contest. Completely subjective is what the judges are working with. In the past years as I watch the dunk contest I think the two biggest criteria for winning are the crowd cheers and if it is something new. Pretty hard to do a convetional dunk these days that hasnt allready been done. Thats why the Superman thing last year, and Nate going over Howard, etc are so popular. The amazing seems mundane these days in regards to the NBA. Amazing happens every night.

I totally agree, sports are meant to be fun but don't expect me to respect judges and commentators who don't respect talent. A fixed contest at least should not be called as a "contest", they can call it slam dunk show or slam dunk something instead.
