So I drafted a 5 star small forward with my first pick and he turned out to have a role player potential. Everyone else in my league recieved at least a potential of star, so I guess my question is what the hell man. Does my staff have any bearing on scouting, and if so, who do I have, Rob Babcock doing my scouting? I mean Rapheal Araujo, what was he thinking. However I digress, I am very disappointed in my draft class and am searching for answers. Also, is there room for potential to grow (let's face it, sometimes a late draft pick sometimes develops into a star)?

The potential rating was certainly not 5 star..(?)

I didn't find anyone really promising with my scouting so I gambled and put a lot of totally unknown players for the first preferences, and hit the jackpot, incredibly lucky I guess.:)

Ok and the question has to be asked, was he a 5 star player, or did he have 5 star potential? Last year I did the same thing I drafted the highest rated player at small forward and he came out with 6th man potential. The first set of stars only indicate his current level of play. The second set are for his potential and they even give a "letter grade" for potential as well.

It just happens. Last years draft sucked for me. This years draft has given me some really solid players I can either train or turn a quick buck with... You win some, you lose some...

Draft is a tough one. Seems like you can put a lot of $$ into it and get nothing out of it.

As noted in another post I read, all 5* are not equal. Some may me good players with limited potential. I managed to draft 2 5* players. 1 was a Superstatr, the other a role player. But even the superstar was a 6'5" PF, so it's still disappointing

Since when 6-5 PF are disappointing (barring he has no red flag hole in his skills)?

I see, he was a 5 star player, not 5 star potential. Oh well live and learn!

Do what I do and put all that money into your stadium. Then buy a guy you want at the start of the year.

Drafting is always a game of chance. If you scout more players, you get a higher chance of getting the better player but there is no guarantee that you'll get them.

I got lucky in this year's draft because in my rankings, the player I put in #1 also had a role player potential and is 19 years old but someone drafted him ahead of me. I'm sure that the one I put as #1 had a power forward position and there is only one power forward drafted before I got to pick.

But I got a 6'1 center who is 18 years old and had a superstar potential. I'm not sure now what to do since it is hopeless to train him in rebounding.

Hopefully you can get better players for the next draft :D

Nice me too I had a good solid read on one of them and gambled on the other but bot turned out good. But the sad part is I could have had a MVP potential PG in round 3 but ended up with a 6'2" scrub of a SF lol. My SF has a nice salary number of just under 5k a week at 18 and highly skilled can play all 5 positions at 6'10" for now he is a PF though. My PF has nice D stats needs to improve his O at 19 playing him at C because of his D. Both are strong free throw shooters too boot I am very happy look out for Buford Hope and Thurman Bain a future great frontcourt for team Goatts.
