When substitutions are made is there an allowance in the game engine for the coach to make sure that your best players are in the game at the end?

My last game was close, and I was up 2 or 3 with about 4 minutes to go my best players all started getting subbed out. I had 1 starter in while my opponent had all of his. I realize that stamina plays a role in this, but if your best players have not got enough stamina the coach ought to be able to recognize this and rest them earlier so they can play at the end.

It isn't a big deal I guess, but it was a bit frustrating to watch my bench blow the game when they shouldn't have been on the court by any sense of basketball logic.

There is no real insurance that your coach will put your best players in the field in critical moments like you described, but i think the engine is getting a few changes soon that will improve the game a lot. We'll see....

By the way, Bumping is not allowed. ;)

There is a slight modifier in there that adds a bump for starters in the 4th quarter.. it isn't that large though and since foul trouble and tiredness adds up and sometimes dominates in the 4th quarter it is very often not the case.. i could consider increasing that factor at least in reasonably close games.

Sorry about the bump, but my question had gone almost a full day without being addressed while a number of other posts had been answered. You'll notice that a response came within 15 minutes of my bump, and I have to wonder if I would have been answered without it.

(In other words, I question whether or not my bump was entirely a needless post since I didn't think anyone was going to answer)

But sorry...I won't do it again

Concerning the engine....like I said, it isn't that big of a problem since it affects everyone equally, but it would be more true to the game for the coach to try and make sure his starters (or whoever is playing best) are fresh enough to play at the end of games. Especially since the engine already seems to pull players in foul trouble to conserve them for the end of games.

I can assure you the best players are being put in... where best is defined as who is the most effective at that moment in the game... this might not be the starter however if the starter is too tired, or too ineffective due to foul trouble. I rather see this as the primary benefit to having a higher stamina rating, and don't want to make the AI too smart so that being in good shape doesn't affect the game as much.

True, however even the worst coach in the history of the sport knows enough to pull out his best players so that they can have enough to play when they are most needed.

Have you ever watched a basketball game where the coach pulls 3 starters with 3 minutes to go with a 3 point lead? Usually they would sit early in the fourth instead correct? Stamina would still have an effect because their total time on the floor would still be limited.

It is the same philosophy as pulling a player who is in foul trouble. You are saving them for when they are most needed on the court. It should be reasonable to do the same with fatigue.
