I've read that 48 minutes played has to be accumulated for a specific position to be optimal for training. I wanted to ask if the maximum playing time works the same way? For instance, if I have a player at 50 minutes at PG and SG, would that be beneficial for his guard training or detrimental because he played more than 90 minutes total?

hey there

you get "maximum" training after 48 mins.

Anything over 48mins will not improve the training, since it's already optimal.

So minutes over 48mins is just to "tune" the gameshape. Try to get your players between 50-65 minutes and keep it steady. If your player plays 50 minutes, he not only get the best training (100%), but also has a good chance to have a very good game shape. Whereas if your player plays 90 mins, he also gets 100% training, but he ll most likely take a hit on his gameshape.

Besides, you need to give your trainee's the minutes.. so anything over 50 minutes is a waste in my opinion (for the positions you're training)

Hope i could help, otherwise ask again :)

Very helpful, actually. =)

So (for us noobs) it's probably okay to go with our starters in both the cup and conference matchups this week since the only potential harm will be a hit to gameshape?

Game shape is fairly important to game play. I highly recommend getting your players the 50-65 minutes. If you Game Shape drops below Respectable, it is OBVIOUS when you compare performance between games. It will stabalize around Strong if you manage your minutes well, with some weeks being proficient. And the difference in performance between proficient and average is rather remarkable statistically.

Okay, thank you very much for the help.

Just one remaining question from my original post. I'm assuming that the minutes played we're discussing with respect to gameshape is total minutes played and not just those played by position. Is that correct?

I've been trying to control my minutes, but it's really wierd because my backups are getting almost as many minutes as my starters. I've got 2 guys at 47 minutes. Should I play them at all, and risk them going above 65 minutes, or hope that they get some sort of training even though they are below 48?

Probably Stamina related. If your starters have low stamina, the minutes will be a bit more equal between starter and bench. If it were me I would play those two 47 minute guys as back-ups, unless they were less important trainees tha someone who needed the minutes more.
