i've been training outside defense, with a level 5 coach and always 2 positions, on my 2 guards for 5 weeks and non of them had a pop. one has prolific and the other sensational in the outside defense skill and both have 23 years old. their potential is all-star...is this normal??

I'm training this 2 players since they were 18 and they never took more than 3 weeks to pop in this skill...i start this training last season when they were still 22 years old...I thought that happens because of the potential but i know a player just like my 2 guards but he is 1 year younger and when my 2 players did not pop once he had 2 pops in outside defense...

Could it be fair to say that a higher level trainer will not get you greater depth of skill, meaning that you will not pop 2 levels or one a week training a single position, but rather a greater breadth of training, meaning that whether you train just a single position or a team the depth will be greater with a higher trainer?

For example, if you have a 1 or 2 trainer and you train just C you will get a pop in a week with good minutes, but if you train multi positions it will take 2-3 weeks.

So you would not get 2 pops with a 5-6 trainer in just 1 week training only C right? But if you trained PF/C or team you may be able to get a pop a week over the entire team due to the higher level trainer.

Does that sound reasonable and/or plausable?

I'm not sure I follow your message. I've never done single position training, but if it takes only 1 week to train a skill with a level 2 trainer, I might start.

Also, I'm pretty sure it is not possible to pop 2 levels in a given skill, with only one week of training.

I'm just curious - what are the rest of the guard skills for your player? If they are lower than the outside d skill, they could be slowing your pressure training down.

I note that you have ignored passing training for both of them. I'm sure that is having a bit of an influence.

Anyhow, my 20 year olds sometimes took 4 weeks to train OD. So 5 weeks is not unheard of.

So that's nothing to do with their potential?

It could be - I don't really know too much about the caps based on potential. However, given their age, 5 weeks would not be out of the ordinary for training pressure.
