Is it me or does this metric erratic at times? Is FT shooting included? Usually when the measure is off it's usually a small sample of shots, can someone provide a rough formula for it's calculation?

Yes, if your player does not shoot the PPS rating will be zero. However, I don't think it is at all influenced by his performance.

My opinion is this. Every time your player shoots, it serves as another piece of information used in the PP 100 shot average. This makes sense because if he takes an outside shot the chances of it going in could be much different than if he takes an inside shot.

So - if your guy does not shoot, there is no input to the formula. Therefore, nothing can be reported.

It's not calculated only on the basis of the actual performances. It largely takes into account the players' propensity to score.

So I may have a killer SF with say 120 PPS but going 3-10 from the field, which just means he was unlucky in the "roll of the dice".

Having said that, I think it is at least in part influenced by the actual performance. My evidence for this is that there used to be a time, not sure if it's true anymore, in which if none of the players at a certain position scored (say your PFs went 0-20) your PPS rating would be 0.

In my last match my SF's combined went 0-12 shooting. 0-6 from beyond the arc, and 4-8 from the stripe for a total of 4 pts. PP100S was 104.4

I need new dice :P
