Reading another thread about the Princeton made me want to ask this question:
is it better to have
a) a team that is flexible and can run a few different tactics fairly well
or
b) a team that can run 1 tactic incredibly well?
What I'm wondering about is whether it would be better to start building a team around a certain tactic, or should I follow the suggested skill usage in the newbie help sticky? I can see the benefit of being able to run a few different tactics, since it would make you less predictable, but I also see the value in being able to choose a tactic that is so overwhelmingly executed that other teams have a hard time fighting against it.
Thoughts?

a) gives you the most options
but it realy depends on your opponents.
If (most of) your opponents are weak against 1 specific tactic, it is better to be incredibly well in that tactic.
But mostly you'll face diffrent teams with diffrent weaknesses and strenghts and then I think it would be best to be able to adapt to that.
They are not your friends; they dispise you. I am the only one you can count on. Trust me.

well, I did B up untill DII. Then you NEED to be able to run outside, inside, or balanced. or at least defend them. A team that could only put up inept OD would not last long in the upper leagues.

a) mainly because you are blind to some extent when picking a draftee so draft would be either just for money or it would make you reconsider every time you would end up with a decent player that way. Don't get me wrong it's beneficial to master some lineups and gather players fitting roles in that scheme but your opponents are rarely all the same and they can adjust too.
Most important thing is that you will want not to play the same players at the same positions for training reasons. Sooner or later you would at least think about setting a certain lineup different from the usual/best just because more effective training.

After few days offline - i mean sometimes you want train your center in outside defense or your swingman in inside defense or such things. Or you prefer different secondary trainings, typical example would be one on one (driving) for guards vs. forwards.

acarl,
I ran LI exclusively and went 19-0. Then I decided to sell some guys and change things up. I'm 11-4 in league games since then.
I agree, as you promote, especially into II, you'll need to vary your sets.

ah, ok, now I get it: for example, if I want to train one on one more effectively, I'd switch my training from PG/SG to forwards (since they train a bit faster in one on one), but play my trainees in those positions rather than the regular forwards, is that what you mean?

Thankfully, being in a small BB country (Nippon), I'm already in the top league, and many of the teams in that league run the same thing over and over again. I think I'm going to try and make my team more versatile.
