I was wondering what are the chances of being promoted without winning your own league. I know this is explained in the rules, but I still need some clarification.
I've taken a look at my league previous seasons; in the last one, for example, a team got promoted after losing the final with a 20-2 record in the regular season. More in general, I believe in order to have any chance of promotion you have to end the regular season with not more than 3 losses.
So, in my understanding, here's how it works. At the end of the season, the league winners are automatically promoted. After that, all the free spots in the higher division are filled by the teams with the best records in the lower one, no matter how they performed in the playoffs. So, for example, if you have a team with a 22-0 record that loses the first playoff game, this will be 99% sure to get promoted anyway (well, in lower divisions like mine at least). Theoretically, there may also be more than two teams promoted in the same league, if they all have a very good record.
Is that correct?
