I have two scenarios.

1st:
A player has mediocre JS but pitiful JR.

2nd:
A player has pitiful JS but mediocre JR.

The question:
Which of this two players will have a successful descent outside scoring? Which of these two will have a higher percentage of scored shots?

and what if the JR will be atrocious. would the player have a high percentage shot.

Thanks for the answers.

i would go for player a as the better offensiv option

About the shot percentage, i would say good shooting don#t need necessarily good percentages for this player - because a superior scorer who take a lot of shots and even more difficult one. the same goes for weak Scorer, they take pretty less shot, but the percentag, must not be weaker then other players.

But if you have good scorers your team could get better shots on every atack, and won't take that much difficult shots.

and what if the JR will be atrocious. would the player have a high percentage shot.

for a C or PF it will be ok i think, but for the other positions i would go for a more balanced shooter(mabye 25% more JS then JR)

Probably neither, though it depends.

;P
Yeah it's like in football with your preferred foot; some have Either, some have Left, some Right, some Neither. ;D I agree with Kozlodoev here.

I'll give you an example from my players and let you take it as you will.

Player A: Polanec
Jump Shot: average
Jump Range: strong

FG: 80-189 (42%)
3PT: 14-44 (32%)

Player B: Grant (He was hurt for a few games so his attempts are down compared to player A.)
Jump Shot: strong
Jump Range: average

68-165 (41%)
9-24 (38%)

From this I'd guessimate that jump range plays to a larger factor on the number of attempts and to a lesser degree the precentage a player converts while the jump shot plays into the opposite idea. To support this I've noticed a 3rd player of mine who took quite a bit of shots (Alas) wasn't shooting at a great percentage, but I've been working on his jump shot and I haven't seen a noticeable increase or decrease in attempts, but I've seen an increased precentage of shots converted per game.

EDIT: To answer your player question I'd have to agree with the notion that neither player would be a successful option for you. Both jump range and shot are important to have. The range doesn't have to be on par with the shot to have an effective player who can shoot mid-range and long range, but the player has to have a decent level of jump range at least.

Wow guys JS means the overall skill at taking a jump shot and JR means from which range his JS is the most effective. I believe theres already a thread about this

both both works together, but the weigths are different from the range of the shot :)

So the question is still good, but taff to answer.

The second player is only good if he is a dominant force int he paint thus heavily guarded there leaving him to take a chance on a few treys which could eventualy make sometimes with a nice percentages (depends on luck). But his Js is too low even for that. (quality of opponent especially his OD not taken into consideration)
So numbers of both are too low for any sufficient offence no matter theit position and quality of opposing team. (they can score in scrimmages a bit against lucky fans of out of position players I guess)

I think I found out another thing about success rate of shot going in. I think handling plays a part. Because I have player who has a JS of mediocre and JR of average but all of his 3point attempt was no good. All of his stats(mediocre up) is good exempt handling which is atrocious. I think that's it. Comments are needed about my analysis.

jI think you need to train JS more as a rating of mediocre wont hit that good of a three point percentage.

I think if you train that up and maybe some JR then you will find its more the skills of the players shot affecting his percentage not his handling. However handling does help your guard break down the outside defense so it does contribute into him getting more open shots, he just has to have the rating to sink them.
