Hi,

Finally found a player on the transfer market i think i will end up keeping for a while!

He is a C with good defensive stats (except IS which I am training)

His worse stat is his JS which is Atrocious. Will this dramatically effect his performance? It doesnt say in the help section that JS is important but I assume it cant harm.

As I train 1-1 I am happy to play him in the PF position to get DV / IS / JS training.

Q is. Is it worth it... even 2 pops up to awful - will it make as much difference as adding to his better skills?

It depends on your offensive tactics, if you are playing an inside game your C/PF/SF will tend to take more shots closer to the basket.

If your C can defend inside, rebound & score inside he shouldn't have any trouble on the court. Remember you have 5 positions, each with a different job & the skills necessary to do that job.

The guys that I normally play at C have not great JS but good IS & have a reasonable shooting accuracy.

One thing to note is that he will get a few Jump Shot pops while training Inside Scoring - Jumper is one of the secondary trainings there. I started with a respectable IS/atrocious JS guy (whom I play at PF and C) who has popped once in each and is a 46% FG shooter this season, if that is any help.

This is the way i see JR and JS. Jump shot is how well a play can perform a jumpshot.
Jump Range is the range his jumpshop will maintain his effectiveness while backing further away from the board...

Example:
Player 1 with JS - Respectable and jump range atrocious.
His jumpshot is Respectable only when he's very close to the basket. If he goes any further his jumpshot will not maintain the respectable status, and it will decline rapidly. By mid-range his Jumpshot might be pitifull.

Player 2 with JS - Respectable and jump range mediocre.
His Jumpshot will maintain the same skill further than player one. While player one has his Jumpshot declined to mediocre by stepping further away from the basket, player 2 might has his jumpshot still maintained at respectable.

Player 3 with JS - Average and jump range strong.
This player can maintain his Average Jumpshot even if he's positioned near or behind the 3 point line, while player 1 might has his jumpshot reduced to atrocious by that time, and player 2 to mediocre.

So close range player 1 and 2 are tied with respectable, while player 3 has average.
Mid-range player 2 wins over 1 and 3 with an Respectable still, while player 1 has let's say maybe awful due to his atrocious JR. Player 3 still has his Average.
Long range player 3 wins over 2 and 1. 1 has with no doubt atrocious and player 2 might have an mediocre JS at the 3point line, while player 3 maintained his Average jumpshot.

So basicly, jumprange is just a measure to determine the decline of the players Jumpshot skill due to range.
Having a Legendary Jumprange and an Atrocious Jumpshot doesn't make you a good shooter. Just makes you shoot atrocious at any given position.
Being a 3-point shooter with a Legendary Jumpshot and Atrocious Jump range is not that convicing either. Might be a 100% shooter from short-mid range but maybe a 40% shooter from the 3point line. He'd be better off being a Center or a PF.


Keeping that in mind, i'll say Jumpshot is well important for a center. His jumprange doesn't have to be high, but it's a nice bonus.

:Note: This is just my way of seeing the JS and JR.

it certainly makes sense.. not being a basketball fanatic I would imagine that every player on court needs to have a reasonable JS otherwise what are they doing?

Ok so you got better passers and blockers but surely JS is a fundamental skill/requirement of all players (ill await to be proved wrong on this!)

so if this is true and your theory proves to be correct what level of JS / JR in your opinion (minimum not maximum) would be appropriate for a C without risking his shooting stats plummet dramatically.

Also to digress slightly - if a player on your team is not overly great at a particular skill (lets say JS) does the game engine understand and within try to find someone who is a better option within the 24secs you have to get your shot off?

ie. If you have a great SG & SF but your PG is weak as in my case my C is weak will the C just be used for what he is good at (ID, RB & SB) or will he still automatically get his share of shots...

In my experience the engine does a pretty good job of working out all the variables and putting together a fairly "realistic" game most of the time.

It'll usually take your offensive ratings and the defensive ratings of your opponent and sort out your playing style from that as well as whatever tactics you use etc so if you've chosen to play "Look Inside" offense but your center isn't that strong inside or he's being defended by an awesome center on the other team then your players will try to look to your power forward or small forward more and then go to the guards as the next option etc.

Of course this doesn't mean that your team is perfect and bad shooters won't try to jack up shots you don't think they should anyway ;)

Most of the time it does try to shoot faster and let the best shooter shoot, but sometimes i saw my center throw a 3 pointer with an average JS and Awful JR. So yeah it might have a few flaws in it. Note that it wasn't the last 3 seconds before the buzzer.

cheers - the guy has great stats in all the other Def positions so i just hope these can add to my match ratings whilst im training him in his not so great skills.... as long as i compensate elsewhere on the court im hoping in 1-2 seasons to have a very strong player..

he just fitted in to my training regime with his current stats......
