It is my impression that -- for whatever reason -- prices for players have fallen from the ridiculous highs earlier this season. I see a million dollars going a lot further than, say, three weeks ago. Impressions only, not scientific.

That is because of the extra free agents. There are a ton of them on the market at the moment... But prices still have more to fall. I think I understand what the BBs were talking about before.

For example, there are probably a few division III-IV teams out there training superstar Cs who are going to get a big surprise next season as the salary jumps from $50,000 to $150,000. I do not know if such a player is sustainable down in the lower divisions... So they will probably have to sell them or go bankrupt. This will ripple up into the higher divisions where teams will have to carry higher salaries to compete, meaning a lot less profit. And... that will eventually ripple into the transfer market.

just before the cutoff date for players to be elligable for the playoffs.

The best time to buy is at the start of the season because everyone gets rid of their draft if they are not going to get them

Nope. Best time to buy (prices-wise) is about 3 weeks after the draft, when the major buyers wave has already settled and prices have dropped. If there is enough interesting players is another thing, depends on what one is looking for.

Sometimes I find good deals just after the transfer deadline.

its all circumstancial.... if you have a key player and a top team has picked up an injury or a team is pushing because they are in the latter stages of their cup you have a chance to get a good price everytime.

i dont think the week of the season is as influential as the time of day - (this is for run of the mill players that most teams wont set an alarm for to compete for) For the top 10% of players you can bet that there will be interest from a minimum of 2 teams and from what i've seen neither will ensure the other gets an amazing deal so from the sellers perspective its all good.
