So as this player progresses in his career(gets better) the higher your merchandise sales go up. If and when you sell this player/cut him your merchandise takes a hit.
All of the suggested functionality already exists in the game without nominating anyone. Want to have a "face of the franchise"? Draft a great player and train him, or go on the transfer list and spend some money on a NT regular. I don't see a need to add any specific designations for this.
