The only determinate fact is that it's supposed to rotate between a european and a non-european country.

That's also not the case - look at 2010 & 2014.

Time zone doesn't really make sense since S. Korea and Japan co-hosted it in 2002.

Point conceded. Waking up at 3-6am to watch the games was indeed rough on me.

I actually really enjoyed the South Korea/Japan world cup. Wake up early and watch games while finishing homework. Wouldn't work as well now, but still....

The other big stunner to me was that England was eliminated in the first round of voting for the 2018 WC.

Maybe I can get to Russia in 2018 for them...

I'm kind of hoping to meet a Brazilian girl in time for 2014.

Hey now, good for Qatar. Maybe the US should eliminate fan apathy and consider investing in an infrastructure that isn't complete shit? The over-reliance on interstates and domestic air travel likely didn't sit well with foreigners who are used to more efficient systems.

Qatar's presentation was more creative and inspired than that of the USA. The game will expand into a booming market (actually, Qatar should send the USA a thank-you note for that) and the event will be a beacon of globalization (the good kind.)

Yes, not having a high speed rail system is what cost the US the bid... ::rolls eyes::

Certainly doesn't help. When your host cities are so far apart, one can do nothing but laugh when cars and short flights are relied on so heavily, and our idea of cutting edge high-speed rail is the f*cking Acela. Cost efficiency, time efficiency, and eco-friendliness are all considered when it comes to transportation. These concepts are as foreign to the US as the idea of "Just rent a SUV" is to the FIFA voters.

Qatar brought something original to the table and was rightfully rewarded. Do you really want games played in American football stadiums with no atmosphere whatsoever? It should actually be viewed as admirable that FIFA (who only cares about money and is corrupt etc. etc.) rewarded a new, creative, and in many ways risky idea over an old, tired, but revenue-generating plan.

Get over it guys, the right choice was made.

Yeah, the Russian host cities are all right next door to each other.
