If you think have a shot at promotion or will be in a fight to avoid relegation, always advise to focus on league games. Lots of managers come over from HT. BB is different in that there's much more reward for promoting/avoiding relegation (yes, even with the economy changes this season).

In your case, 3 games up in the league, you might be able to afford a loss in going for a cup win. But, still want to maintain as high enthusiasm as possible for the playoffs. A CT now could effect your enthusiasm even half a season away unless you can afford to TIE at least one league game a week.

I think it's far more important to focus on tournament games. In fact, I would advise you to play your backups in your remaining league game this week to avoid the humiliation of being an NBBA team losing to a IV team in the tournament.

But if you look at about half the responses here...money is a relevant factor. I guess the way I see it, I may get lucky as in bobos case and draw a bunch of lvl 4 teams and MAYBE get one weeks worth of salary paid for at the cost of game shape, possible injuries...or I can scrimmage the scrubs (ie draftee) which saves my starters game shape, if one of them gets injured...so what and I get training pops on them and at the end of the year sell one off for a decent profit. I guess I dont see how the tournament is really beneficial to a manager unless they get lucky draws and pull nothing but lvl V bots for the first 5 rounds which most would treat like a scrimmage game anyways? Im sure NBBA players have no problem with their backups taking on lvl 4 and 3 teams the same way however....

Yes, it is not economical, and the better your team is - the less economical it becomes (assuming better teams are more expensive to maintain). Yet, as a good team you get a chance to play relaxed, and it might worth a lot of money on the long run.

As for the draw - maybe it is less fair when it is totally randomal, yet this way it is more interesting for the weaker teams (which are most teams).

I think the best drawing system would be the tenis-drawing system. Setting all rounds in advance according to rankings, yet if you win against a better ranked team - you get this team's draws till the end of the tournament.

Only sense I see to play tournament right now is to get nice shiny trophy.....

I think lot of managers dont play tournament right now and that makes it less competitive.....and not so fun to play anymore....better stay on training strategy...(my opinion)....or on chasing flags...:P

If I am not mistaken, there are some NBBA teams already out of the cup because their scrubs/starters didn't get it done and got CT!

It was those 6, I repeat 6 weeks that paid for my salaries (approximately). And I had an injury - but yes I got it made up here?????????????????????????????

Plus the NBBA teams thrown in there and if you were KDB for 2 weeks of BBB lol....

So...... Where are my scrubs?

Once more, this year the NBBA loses a higher level of revenue from games...

This is not meant to be a whining thread, but rather this is what the game is about and it's much more fun this way than putting it on cruise control and roll in money.

From my position, YOU are in the better position to train (your 11-0 and blowing teams out....), make money (your fans are definetly happy), win your division (see the 11-0 and you don't have 15 of the best teams in the US in your division), and make a better cup run when you decide to CT a team in the NBBA.

I would suggest treating the tournament as a bonus income and brace for the staff changes that are coming soon!

Cup winner goes into BBB, don't they? Extra money there?

I didnt mean to sound like I was whining and granted I have gotten lucky in my draws except for I ran into a Lvl II team whos focus was not on the cup but he still put in some starters and tried to continue.

Im just saying looking at the risk reward of it all:

I can just play scrubs in cup games and if I bow out early, then the advantages are:
I can set up a more regimented training schedule and play just non starters
If a non starter gets injured, no big loss.
Im able to train up a player or two to either fill in a gap, or sell off for more than I could possibly earn in the tournament, knowing that I may run into an NBBA or tough Div II at any point the next week. 4-5 weeks at 20 grand may not be worth it when I can get 4-5 weeks of regimented training and sell off a player for 300k?
This all makes sense if I am able to turn a consistant profit week to week.

I can make a cup run of it.
I might have to play some starters in which case I lose game shape.
I risk an injury to my starters in those games that I feel it is necessary to use them. Could become a problem with finishing the season and I may not get advanced to the next division which I thought was one of the major aspects of the game.
All for the shot at? Running into a team that is going to wax me or I have to CT to attempt to stay in the cup to try and get BB3 invite in either case I risk dropping 2-3 games trying to recover only to know that I may end up facing an equally tough opponant the next week.

I guess my main question is, with the randomness of the cup and the meager pay out week to week with no garuntee that you are going to hit a big time player with a bench that throttles your starters, theres no good reason to stay in it when I can train a player that could basically get me the same type of payout a little bit further on in the year. Granted I do like the idea of the competitiveness, however, in my eyes it almost does more damage to a team to attempt to run the cup vs just focusing on division advancement.
