It is nice to sit in division IV with a pile of money and then race to the top later, but if 5 other teams in your div IV league have the same idea, and only one of them promotes every season from next season onwards, then these promotions could become quite costly compared to what is on offer for the teams that have already promoted...

could i add another variable that did not occur to me when i began:

i am going the team-with-all-Utopia-players route. i realized i would have to build this squad, but i never quite realized that if needed, say, a good PF (making $25,000), that such Utopians not only don't exist, but will not exist for another season or two, and will be so precious that they will be very unlikely to make the TL. the other disincentive is the lack of a Utopian national squad, which would spur the creation of a cadre of talented players.

that said, my merchandise sales has been so good that, combined with the TV contract, my attendance revenue (averaging over $90,000 a game) is pure profit. i just don't know how long my fans will be happy with a competitive DIV team.

I think you got a mistake here with the correct prices.
He never was over 120k in a single game.

I'm not sure how much to take from that. You have very little in the way of expenses, because your payroll is actually lower than the Salary Floor. How good is your merch?

Mine is $13,734 for this week. I only have 2 Utopian players on my team, they aren't trainees and don't suit up in real games. Will the merch benefits from D.IV (or later on) going to be close to good enough to make it worth your while? Without any NT players, NT merch boosts don't exist.

Whats really important are self trained players. Preferably self drafted, 2nd are own nationality.
I got Salary-Floor Team with $20.769 merchandise (43,43% of salary), but i got a lot of foreign trainees.
Success and "self generated" salary are key to merchandies i guess.

relatively speaking, i'm rolling in the merchandise dough. i'm a shade under $25,000 a week -- my jerseys and bobbleheads are flying off the shelves! the league average is $17,000, so if i keep that ratio with any advance, it should be nice contribution to the bottom line.

my teams have always been weak w/r to merchandise, so right now i feel like i'm mining bitcoins. but progressing is problematic, because my current trainees have limited potential and really will only be my bench when i have a mature team. i am saving to make winning bids on those trained utopian superstars when they start hitting the market.

that's the plan.

So that's a good question. How many trained quality players will hit the market? The first ones to do so will go for a fortune, but there's gotta be people who just don't want to sell their own trainees.

Some people like to sell trainees as soon as they've capped (I think that's weird, but whatever), so the first time a bunch will go on the market is when they hit ages 23-25. Then people also like to sell before their players hit the dreaded age of 33. So, maybe ages 29-32 is the next big TL bubble.

Basically I'm thinking you won't find any real quality Utopian players for 4 more seasons, they'll be limited in quantity and very expensive. Then every season after it'd be the same thing until 10ish seasons from now.

my teams have always been weak w/r to merchandise

Same. One time I made an effort to have half of my active roster be USA with an additional USA trainee for scrimmages, and the merch line did not budge. I since sold off every USA player but 1, and the merch is identical.

The amount of own-country players needed to actually see an increase in merch is ridiculous. Like almost all of the roster needs to be own-country. If BB fans were in real life, there would be zero Dirk Nowitzki jerseys in Dallas. Even after they won the trophy in 2011 too.

thanks for making me check -- he is minimal -- at that level, you don't even need to be literate but you do have to sweep up after games.

that would be pretty good experiment early next season -- change PR guys, see if the improvement in skills pays for itself.

How did you go smashing the Div III attendance record with your first game in Div III?

Be interesting to know what the current best was in Utopia Div III.

My first game in Utopia last night produced a gate of $168,856
