Exactly. And what's more rewarding than having created that success by yourself by drafting and developing your own players? For me nothing else does the trick in BuzzerBeater nowadays. Buying your way to success is one way to play - and I've tried it before - but it gets old and boring quite fast.

Each for their own, but I don't see getting back to that "playing philosophy/strategy" any time soon (if ever). When you develop your own players, I think then they can really be called legends within your own franchise, a true franchise players. I've had in the past for instance purchased players who have scored thousands of points to my team, but as I see it nowadays, you can't even speak of them/for their significance in a same sentence with my own drafted players who have done the same - it just feels completely different.

Like I mentioned, personally I've "mentally grown" towards homegrown attitude/way of life for quite a long time already, and that's why I so strongly try to get the BBHG league started. So apologies for all who are totally fed up with me constantly talking about it, but someone has to do it, right? ;)

+1

I would like to know of the different ways teams approached it as I'm sure there are multiple ways. So, different posts by different teams might also be useful.

Personally, as a team that is 'Australian' players only...I have entertained the idea (still do) of converting my team to a homegrown one. I understand it would take 5 to 10 seasons (in my estimate) to do it well and compete at a high level. I'd be happy to begin such a long-term enterprise, but I'd want to hear multiple ways to do it first.

Hopefully some of the HG teams will oblige my request :D

Well, I'll join the club as I'd like to hear more too. It's a very good idea/reminder that whoever decides to write such post/posts, previous success as a HG team is not a demand for doing that. It might be good to include a short description about previous experience (and possible success) as a HG team, so that everyone would get most out of it/could understand better from what background this post comes from. I know there are few very successful HG teams, and probably they've wrote something about this already, but I can't recall seeing such "guide" written about becoming a HG team. And it's very understandable that you'd like to read about experiences first before jumping to deep end - which I think is still not a bad option either, if one has enough cash to survive in lower division for enough time to get promoted (back) to the upper division.

I hope you keep on entertaining that idea, and that it becomes reality some day soon! I haven't checked out your roster (age structure and/or which of Australian players are your own draftees), and I guess that'd also affect how long it'd take for your team to be able to compete at high level. Other thing that's also a bit relative term as it changes from manager to manager and therefore needs probably to be defined, is competing at high level... :D

Just out of curiosity - would you be possibly interested in participating BBHG league with your main team? This has been discussed in previous posts (I don't know what kind of/if discussion about this has been taken place in discord), but as for now I (and many others) would rather see only main teams playing in BBHG league as that's more within the original spirit/definition of a homegrown team. (In previous posts, if you haven't read them, a separate league for Utopian BBHG teams has been proposed though as one solution if there are enough interested participants in the future and if someone wants to govern/be a league commissioner for such Utopian based league. As for now though, I hope to see teams interested in participating with their main team).

For me, there is no walkthrough to become HG … you just have to stick to it, be flexible and anticipate opportunities:

- I came from nothing, economically totally broke, I demoted twice to DIV.3 with my HG-NT-player (42515541).
- I was a little bit lucky and drafted some players which I sold „due to economical reasons“, some others got trained with Pomper.
- „the others“ formed a good basis, I somehow managed „late draft positions“, drafted bigs and trained them.
- was able to buy back drafted players, finished their training or integrated them in my roster.
- managed it to good draft positions again, got „good enough“ trainees for PG-SF.

Training of the PG-SF will finish this season, so at present:
- I have my top 8 for 5-6 seasons in their prime for long PO runs
- every player on my roster was drafted and 100% trained by myself
- I have enough credit to pay their salaries (at present 615k) for these 5-6 seasons
- the next big (and possibly upcoming NT-star) is already there and will be trained (53729043)

This took me about 15 seasons.
And yes, if you look through my transfer history, one time I became weak and bought two foreign players to promote to DIV.1 … and failed.

So my advices:
- have perseverance
- be patience
- dont be afraid of demotions, they are an opportunity!
- keep eye on your sold drafted players
- be flexible
- draft wisely

All the best for the new year.

I have decided to go Home-Grown, starting in Season 68.

Start it now … it’s floating … a process.

Sell whoever is not needed now and/or in the future, add HG players every draft.

No one will blame you if you train foreign players the next seasons to earn some money and build a war chest.
