relatively speaking, i'm rolling in the merchandise dough. i'm a shade under $25,000 a week -- my jerseys and bobbleheads are flying off the shelves! the league average is $17,000, so if i keep that ratio with any advance, it should be nice contribution to the bottom line.

my teams have always been weak w/r to merchandise, so right now i feel like i'm mining bitcoins. but progressing is problematic, because my current trainees have limited potential and really will only be my bench when i have a mature team. i am saving to make winning bids on those trained utopian superstars when they start hitting the market.

that's the plan.

So that's a good question. How many trained quality players will hit the market? The first ones to do so will go for a fortune, but there's gotta be people who just don't want to sell their own trainees.

Some people like to sell trainees as soon as they've capped (I think that's weird, but whatever), so the first time a bunch will go on the market is when they hit ages 23-25. Then people also like to sell before their players hit the dreaded age of 33. So, maybe ages 29-32 is the next big TL bubble.

Basically I'm thinking you won't find any real quality Utopian players for 4 more seasons, they'll be limited in quantity and very expensive. Then every season after it'd be the same thing until 10ish seasons from now.

my teams have always been weak w/r to merchandise

Same. One time I made an effort to have half of my active roster be USA with an additional USA trainee for scrimmages, and the merch line did not budge. I since sold off every USA player but 1, and the merch is identical.

The amount of own-country players needed to actually see an increase in merch is ridiculous. Like almost all of the roster needs to be own-country. If BB fans were in real life, there would be zero Dirk Nowitzki jerseys in Dallas. Even after they won the trophy in 2011 too.

thanks for making me check -- he is minimal -- at that level, you don't even need to be literate but you do have to sweep up after games.

that would be pretty good experiment early next season -- change PR guys, see if the improvement in skills pays for itself.

How did you go smashing the Div III attendance record with your first game in Div III?

Be interesting to know what the current best was in Utopia Div III.

My first game in Utopia last night produced a gate of $168,856

and I felt gutted... At least I know I've already dealt with my rival and there will be further increases because of that. I'm targetting a deep cup run + winning a lot of league games to see that threshold broken.

Congrats to you.

Ironic that we are both in almost identical situations in that we both promoted to Div III this season and that our stadiums are almost identical in configuration.

Your stadium pricing and team objectives however are completely different to mine and as a result your gate was an extra $10 K

My stadium

Bleachers : 7700 @ $11 (sold 7700) - 300 extra under construction
Lower Tier : 1300 @ $36 (sold 1300) - 200 extra under construction
Courtside Seats : 270 @ $104 (sold 267) - 80 extra under construction
Luxury Boxes : 14 @ $799 (sold 12)

Total revenue $ 168 856

Your stadium

Bleachers : 7500 @ $16 (sold 7105) - Nothing under construction - to cut price to $15
Lower Tier : 1300 @ $57 (sold 597) - Nothing under construction -to cut price to $45
Courtside Seats : 220 @ $155 (sold 144) - Nothing under construction- to cut price to $130
Luxury Boxes : 14 @ $1050 (sold 8) - Nothing under construction-to cut price to $1000

Total revenue $ 178 429

Your aiming for a long cup run, where as Ive already sold my most expensive player and will probably take a step back and consolidate and sell off some trainees and buy better ones.

Edit

Well I went on a buying spree and purchased 4 players.

Had intended to semi tank and sold my 50 K a week player, some how I ended up buying a 100 K a week player who I will now hang onto whilst im in the cup.

I guess our plans are now that not different although of course our pricing strategy for seating is still quite different

I reckon the 200K might be a challenging barrier to break in Div III.

Has anyone crashed the 200 K gate barrier whilst in Div 3?

It is possible to break 200K in Div III for other nations.
But they were broken with two extra advantage compared to current Utopia Div III:
1. Arena size for those teams were more than 15K
2. The teams were playing within the country/division for much longer seasons (as evident by the larger arena size)

For me, I prefer to compare Utopia arena income to other nations of one step lower division (for now).
I find it to be a closer match in terms of arena income guideline

My study on large nation's division arena income are roughly as below:
Div V: Avg $73K Max $94K
Div IV: Avg $124K Max $162K
Div III: Avg $197K Max $244K
Div II: Avg $347K Max $379K
Div I: Avg $530K Max $643K
