The Red Preview
Its a new look Great 8 this season, after a not so great season 20 for the boys in Red. Kynlala Knights continued their slide into Olbivion, and Pwnage and West Coast Steel both lost their respective relegation battles.
3 new teams promoted from division 3, the Gisborne Gladiators, Fresh Prince and the Meateors! All 3 teams won their respective championships, and will be keen to survive in this division.
Southern Breakers
The Breakers return for their 2nd term in II.1, after surprising everyone and finishing top dog in the Great 8 in their inaugural season. They went 16-6, led by league MVP Mario Corpo.. They were outclassed in the playoffs by 1 of Australia's most experience managers, and will be hoping to repeat this season, and maybe go 1 better and join the big leagues!
Rival : GC Vikings
GC Vikings
The Vikings also return for their 2nd season in the 2nd division, after going 15-7 in their first season in which they made the finals. Schaboom sold up towards the end of last season, but will be hoping his off-season signings will be able to more than make up for the players he sent packing.. They will be looking to spoil the Breakers party, and go 1 better this season
Rival : Whompas Donkeys
Whompas Donkeys
The Donkeys finished with a record of 14-8 in season 20 to secure 3rd place.. They farewelled Hall of Famer Dewey Bowers in the off season, confident that their emerging trainees are good enough to fill the void left by the American. The Donkeys have done the hard yards, choosing to train iplayers internally, as opposed to pay the big dollars for the experienced players. They return for their 3rd stint in 2.1, and will be looking to improve on last season!
National : Jakipbek Tolebayev (Khazakstan U21)
Rival : GC Vikings
Go Aussie
The Aussies secured 4th place early last season and were able to coast through to the end of the season. They are returning for their 3rd season in 2.1, and have so far been fairly quiet in declaring their intentions for the new season. 1 would suggest if with the quality of new teams in the Great 8, they need to start opening their wallet if they wish to stay 4th, or improve on last season!
Rival : Southern Breakers
Red Season 20
Another team returns for their 3rd stint in the league. It was a foundation building season for Red last season as they did what they had to to finish in 5th place.. They cleaned house at the end of last season, and will be desperately hoping their new signings more than make up for their off season sales.. With their wallets open, Red have made an early indication they expect to step up and make the playoffs this season!
Meateors
The Meateors were on a direct course for promotion all season, winning 3.10 with a perfect 22-0 record. They were in a league of their own as they bustled through the league on a date with destiny. Not content with the squad that brought them so much success last season, they have filled their holes in the off season, and look like they are here to stay!
Rival : Red Season 20
Fresh Princes
Prince by name, Kings by nature as they swept aside all their challengers in a dominant performance.. Another 22-0 team, they took the crown in 3.4. The Fresh Princes look to have taken the approach of buying good players in to get the job done for them, as opposed to a vigorous training regime.. They have made smart purchase, to reach division 2, and have yet to really declare their intentions for the coming season
Rival :Gisborne Gladiators
Gisborne Gladiators
The 2nd of 2 teams to promote to 2.1 from 3.12, the Gladiators did it the hard way, earning their promotion with the league title. After a shaky start to season 20, they made the moves to bring in the players they needed to get the job done. Not content to just be a number, the Gladiators want to be a major force in their first year in div 2!
Rival : Fresh Princ
