MACC called for a press conference at noon today to clarify their reported activity in PJ Reds club headquarters in Kelana Jaya this morning.
The Selangor MACC director Solam Bhawakicil said that the visit to PJ Reds this morning was an invitation from the club itself to ensure that they had nothing to hide following allegations of irregularities of a recent transfer of a national player by the club. He said that PJ Reds had produced to MACC with loads of documented evidences and chronological events of what had actually transpired in that transfer of the player right from the beginning to the completion of the transfer. As these are critical information, the club allowed the MACC to take copies of the information back to MACC headquarters for further investigation, not "seized" as reported.
He also said that they have indefinitely suspended one of their officials for bribery, and confirmed that a reporter has been picked up for questioning by the MACC.
Encik Solam also clarified that the food vouchers from Kayu Nasi Kandar in question were produced to MACC officials in PJ Reds club headquarters this morning by the parents of the national player. He added that these vouchers have already expired long time ago in mid 2008 and were given to them, taking advantage of them being poor at that time in order to have their talented son to play for a certain club without having to go through the draft process. Encik Solam confirmed that MACC is investigating this as well and appealed to those with information to contact the MACC hotline at 1-800-88-6000.
