Thank you

I really have loved college basketball for my whole life- and watching young kids play.

I think that will be very interesting, and in some way that will be something revolutionary in buzzerbeater.

I'm also very fond of this idea- it offers something a little diffrent and more interesting than just another regular team.

but sadly, I think it is far too complex to be implemented.

I have had the same idea, but lets allow for the sordid underbelly of the sport to rear its ugly head.

Player is 'failing' his classes he can lose his 'eligibility'

you should have to worry about your guys declaring early

offer nefarious help in the guise of shady boosters who grease the palms of potential recruits. hey the BCAA might not ever notice, but if they do then he dude your on 'probation' for X seasons , have it happen twice in a five season span, warm up old sparky.

I agree with this, I just think this would be really hard to implement into BB..

A lot would depend upon the disposition you seek for the team to have. If you want to have a team from a 'school' seen as academically rigorous then you will have to recruit accordingly and go after players who have good grades. If your encourage the slime rats in an effort to hot shot your way to glory then be prepared to pay the price.

I would love to see a college Buzzerbeater. The first thing that would have to be 100% clear is that it would be a separate game on a separate server. It wouldn't be as hard as creating a completly new game though as the basic GE, stats, faces etc are already done.

Here is my take on how things should be done.

The first season would be different but after the first season this is how things should go.

Each team gets a certain income each week. This can be similar to BB, based on arena, merchandising and TV money. Outgoings each week is based on scholarships, staff (they should be more important than in BB) and scouting (which will be huge and the key feature of the entire game).

During the season it can be the same as things are right now with two games a week and one scrimmage. However instead of 16 team leagues you would be in massive 128 team divisions. Each country would have a certain number of divisions equal to the number of teams divided by 128. You play 22 games just like in BB. At the end of the regular season the ladder of all 128 teams determines who makes the BCAA Tournament. The top 64 teams all make it. Just so they are not totally bored there should also be a consolation tournament of the bottom 64 teams as well. The BCAA tournament takes place in the last two weeks of the season just like the playoffs do right now.

BCAA Tournament
the Round of 64 (second last tuesday of the season)
the Round of 32 (second last saturday of the season)
Sweet Sixteen (final tuesday of the season)
Elite Eight (final thursday of the season - just like in the cup an extra game this week making game shape a challenge)
Final Four (final saturday of the season)
The Divisional Championship (final sunday of the season)

At the end of the season all the teams that made the Sweet Sixteen move up a division and all teams that were in the bottom 16 move down a division.

The Offseason

The first week of the new season is the most important part of the season. This is when teams spend their scouting points and get freshmen for their team. Remember in the college game there is no transfer market. The players you have for the entire season and the ones that you recruit yourself.

Last Tuesday of the season

Lists of the players elegible to be recruited into your division are released. They are ranked in a fairly sensible way unlike the current blank ranking. Every player has basic stats available at the start. Height, position and stats from high school. Then you can spend your scouting points.

Information gathering
1 point: Watch the player in a game get a ball ranking like with one scouting now
+1 more point: Invite them for a workout see two random stats
+1 more point: Give them a complete medical and psych evaluation - see their potential like the interview now

Recruiting
1 point: phone call to 10 players for a talk (value 1)
1 point: Send a letter to 5 players (value 2)
2 points: give 2 players a tour of your campus (value 3)
4 points: Visit 1 player's parents and then take them on a tour of the campus (value 4)
8 points: Host a recruiting rally in honor of the player and send them on a date with your hottest cheerleader (value 5)
16 points: Send the player and his three best friends on a "fact finding" tour of your sister colleges in Londan, Paris and New York. (value 6)
So the maximum effort you can put into a player is 32 points.

You know what you offered the players but you will not know what anyone else in the division has offered them. Do you try to recruit lots of yellow-chip players or target one or two blue-chips with a lot of recruiting? If two teams offer a player the same amount of recruiting the player will choose the one with the best record in the previous season. So if you won your division and put 32 points of effort into a player that is the only way you can be certain of getting him.
