So, what happens when you withdraw your bid? Who has the highest bid then? If there were no earlier bids the worst thing that can happen is that the seller keeps his player. Even this has negative implications (e.g., the seller goes bankrupt), and it is good to understand that placing a bid may keep others from buying the player they want for the price they consider appropriate. If there were earlier bids, does the earlier bidder then have the highest bid? What if they already spent their money on a transfer that finished earlier? Do they still need to buy this player and perhaps face a forced sale of another player or bankruptcy? Is that fair?

Placing a bid is a commitment to buy the player for that price. Making that commitment affect not just your team but various other teams in the community.

If you withdraw your bid and nobody else has a bid in the player simply doesn't get sold. That's the chance you take when putting the player on the transfer list. A player may not get sold. So saying that it can get a seller bankrupt could've been the exact same case, regardless of if a manager put in a bid for the player and then withdrew. So whoever's bid was in at the end gets the player, simple as that.

And what if you're new (like me) and don't really know the average price for certain players. Then the commitment wasn't just because I had no idea of the value.

The main reason that this doesn't exist is because it opens the door for all sorts of abuse.

Consider for a second I am selling a player for $3 millions. There are usually no bids until very late in the transfer period. So what happens if one of my league opponents decides to sabotage me and goes out and bids $10 million on this guy 1 hour before deadline, and then withdraws his bid 3 minutes before deadline?

The end result is that my player is not getting sold, and that if I am not online monitoring the transfer deadline, I might well not realize why.

Additionally, I don't see how asking new members to be prudent before they spend any sort of money is too much. People do it every day outside of BB, why not do it in here too?

First of all I don't see how that's abuse. In the end you don't sell your player which is a possibility you realize when you put your player on the transfer list. And if you don't realize why he didn't get sold, you'd know he withdrew his bid due to that being the only possibility.

Well I wasn't told anywhere the value of players and to watch out my spending. I just got in there and wasn't told anything about how much to spend for what. Because we don't do it in here, that's the point.

Did the players for whom you bid have transfer price estimates?

First of all, welcome to Buzzerbeater! Even if you don't see that it is abuse, it is abuse! How would you react, if you are not able to sell players for about one Season, because someone "don't like you" and act like kozlodoev said. You probably would ask, why it is possible to withdraw bids. But just go on to the next point...

You don't know why it could bancrupt a manager, if someone else withdraws his bid. You probably dont know, that you are able to spent the money from bids on your players as soon as the bid is made, even if the player is still in your roster. When you now start to bid on another player, with the money that you virtualy already have and someone the bid on your player is deleted, you have to withdraw your own bid. So it looks like we wont see any transfers in the future. Or even worse... if you are not able to login after the withdraw, but you still buy the other player... then you are in debt... and no worst case ;) ... now your "friend" from above dont let you make a transfer...
I dont think, that all of these things would happen... it is just to show you what could happen if you are able to withdraw your bids.

The other aspect you mentioned is, that you weren't told the value of the players. Here I will just ask you two questions:

1) Did you ask for help in the forum, like you did it with this topic here?
2) When you want to buy an new notebook, do you just go into the next shop and buy the first one? Or do you compare several notebooks and different shops?

I know that BB is not real life... but thats not the point for me. Even here in Buzzerbeater you have to live with the consequences for your doings.

The continued I didn't know defense doesn't get it done. What you are saying is because you didn't take the time to familiarize yourself with the game everyone else has to let you have a do over. Doesn't work that way it's like ebay don't bid unless you are positive you want to buy. Research, ask questions, read the rules and then proceed.You may as well chalk it up to a live and learn experience. I think just about everyone has had a deal where they said if I had held off another few hours or another day, that other player that was listed later would have been so much better for my team.

Buzzerbeater is a long-run game where strategy plays a significant role. You just got your first lesson about why rash action is bad. Congratulations.

I didn't really get to grips with the game until about halfway through my second season, by which time I realised I'd made a handful of mistakes. Luckily, I was doing well on the court and ploughed significant dollar into expanding my arena which kind of helped. I wish I'd have made your small mistakes in the first place, I may have learned quicker.

With the better economy structure, the transfer compare and incredibly active forums, there really isn't any reason to overbid on a player unless you deliberately do so. If there isn't a transfer compare available on a player, chances are he's way too expensive/skilled for a new team anyway. Looking at your team transfers, it's not like you've wasted a massive amount on new players anyway, so you shouldn't suffer that much.

I don't really understand how you can be sure you could get better player for the same amount of cash. If they were such bargains someone other would probably overbid you (remeber the 3 minute rule - prize could go even more higher).
If a team with a big star is abandoned the stat hit the market as FA. Then you can bid 1K to get him. But it doesn't mean you will get him for 1K, he will be bought for a couple of milions if he is that good.
So you probabkly didn't that bad.

It would be very prone to abuse the other way and I would strongly reconsider if I want to play a game which implements such bad mechanics. Luckily it doesn't.

Yes they did. However at the time I knew nothing of them. Also once I found out it was still very difficult for me to locate them, it should be more clear in my opinion.

Thanks for the welcome. And I don't understand your first point, if somebody doesn't like you they wouldn't buy a player from you so they wouldn't bid. I don't get it.

I understand your next point, however with the withdrawal tool implemented more rules would obviously have to be implemented. For example BB could implement a feature where in the case you mentioned you wouldn't buy the player because it wouldn't allow you to go into debt from this situation.

1) I had some difficulty going around the forum to ask so I didn't. I bid assuming that it's obvious that withdrawal would be permitted. Seeing how it is in reality.
2) What if you were just born and you want to buy the notebook. You don't know the price of notebooks and don't know how to navigate around to see average notebook prices. Plus it's called a refund.

I realize that mate, however I just think this is a really realistic tool that must be added. I mean seriously, especially for beginners. Maybe just for members who have been members for a week or so?
