should be good. i dont think the 1 month is enough to get me to the benchmark, but at least it gives me something to strive for, as weight has never really been a problem, thus never had a real big motivator.

it is going to a bloody tough event.

@kilrtom - i think i recall you saying that you used to be a personal trainer so i have a question.

should you stretch after doing exercise? i thnk i recall someone saying you shouldnt, as when you exercise you gets micro-tears in your muscles, and when you stretch that muscle after exercise you worsen the micro-tears and risk injury. was wondering if you knew anything about that.

cheers bainsy

i am no expert, but i have always been told stretch before exercise, and then do a cool down after exercise.. so if you go for a 5k run or something, do a 500m-1k walk or something after to stretch it out and help muscles go back into place, dont just go to a complete stop!

i am still losing weight, even tho not exercising.. i hope it is fat and not muscle :D

tough mudder would literally kill me

I rarely stretch after exercise, but I know that when I do, I have less muscle soreness the next day etc.

when I train Muay Thai, my trainers normally make us do a 10 minute intense warm up, then stretch, then work out, then warm down, then stretch.
then most importantly EAT EAT EAT.... and rest. :P

interesting... there seems to be two different strains of thought on the matter.

I've never been told in 15 years of weight training or any sport training or anything else NOT to stretch afterwards.

Always get told "make sure you warm down and stretch" by everyone.

Or you could realise that if you ask 100 people you'll get 100 different answers and that you should then just do what works best for you after trying different things out. :D

Yeah I agree. Consider this: each professionally held running event (ie City to Surf) has all contestants stretch (en masse) before the event starts. That is, professional athletes (can't remember who it was last year but previous years have seen national rugby players, basketball players etc) go through stretching routines with thousands of people all stretching at the same time. At the finish line, however, there is powerade and water but no-one saying "make sure you stretch now". Whether this is because people finish the race at different times or it isn't deemed as important as stretching prior to the race. There's my two bob's worth. :-)
