HO: “We're back, continuing the conversation with the Linndale GM. Again, thank you for the time. Addressing the elephant in the room, the possibility is quite real that Linndale misses the playoffs. What does a postseason with no playoffs look like for the team? What is the future of Linndale basketball?”

GM: “First, let me address something. Making the playoffs is our expectation. The road was pretty tough for us last season, but we got in and picked up a win. We expect to make the playoffs. Are we clear? Now the future for us, it means finding out a little more about our younger players. Christophe Nguyen has had a trying 2 years here, but he’s kept at it and we are starting to see some of the development we’ve hoped for. He’s still got a ways to go, but we deem him playable in some situations now.”

HO: “We haven’t seen much of him. Can you give us a scouting report?”

GM: “He’s a 20 year old point guard from France. He’s become a solid two-way defender, which is something we recently have started to re-emphasize. He’s a solid passer. He’s still very much a work in progress, but we are pleased with his progress so far.”

HO: “How about Rich McCain?”

GM: “He’s a work in progress also. Currently listed at point guard, I don’t know if he stays there, but I don’t know he won’t. He looks as if he’ll be a solid two way defender, which at his height is impressive. He can pass. He’s far from finished, but we expect to see him in various spots on the court next season developing.”

HO: “Rolland Reynolds.”

GM: “I think we’re going to find out about him very soon. Came to us a power forward and has shifted to small forward. Looks like another solid developing two way defender. Flashes on offense when given a chance.”

HO: “Art Reese.”

GM: “Solid two way defender. Needs to work on his offense; was brought in for his defense and to develop. It’s been a slow road for him but his defense has always been playable.”

HO: “Pascal Michel Pemweiser.”

GM: “A unicorn on offense. Can score inside and out. Can handle the ball and get to the rim. Needs to get stronger defensively inside and on the boards. Also needs to make better decisions passing.”

HO: “Damian Hatfield.”

GM: “Two way defender who’s got some ball skills. If this kid’s offense develops, look out!”

HO: “What I’m taking from this is an emphasis on two way defenders and bigs who can score inside and out, What does the future of Linndale basketball look like?”

GM: “Two way defenders at each position, or at least one at each level minimum on the floor at all times. It all starts with defense, and we have 7 players we feel are two way defenders right now and hope to add 2 more players to our list from those on the roster right now early nest season. Rebounders and scorers at each level for the first and second units. We want to come at you in waves, with no discernible break between the first and second units. If we can’t do that, we’ll just focus on defense and make life miserable for other teams trying to score. We’ll take our chances in that scenario.”

So... With the season almost over and me looking like a lock for relegation... What would be the wisest use for the $600K or so I'm going to get from my latest transfer?

I've been desperately trying to get my arena up to 20,000 in total capacity:

So I was originally planning on constructing another 700 or so lower tier seats, but would I be better off upgrading my arena instead? Or is that purely a cosmetic function with no real in game benefits?

I understand that in D4 my arena might not sell out if it's too large, but I've been feeling for some time now that until I complete my arena it's going to be excessively difficult to compete at D3 and above (which is why I wasn't planning on heavily investing in long term prospects outside of the 1-2 I already have)...

I wish I had invested a lot more into my arena a long time ago. I've only been able to barely hang on in DIII for a couple seasons because of the lack of money. My vote would be to at least invest some of it into more seats. Investing in a gym or training court can be good too. My 2nd team saw a training lift after getting to a level 2 gym. Put some money there at some point too, wish I had with this team.

This team is just screwed at this point and I keep putting more money into trying to hang on when at this point I have no chance of winning a relegation series unless somehow I beat Miami and one more team to end the season. If/when I relegate, I'll stay down there until I'm able to drastically increase my arena and build a gym.

You know I actually forgot all about infrastructure lol... I've had a Level 1 training court since the beginning of this year, but I'll have to give some consideration to upgrading it and / or building a gym next...

Any thoughts on what would be more beneficial in the long run (Level 1 gym vs. Level 2 training court)?

I hear you about the whole relegation thing though... I'm not going to purposely tank games to remain in D4 but I've promoted twice to D3 (both times after losing handily in the D4 finals) and wasn't close to being ready for D3 either time...

I guess one other thought... has anyone found the ideal Trainer Level?

I've had a Level 6 (exceptional) trainer for the past 2-3 seasons and have been satisfied with my training progress on my key players (mostly 1 position training, occasionally 2) , but I've been toying with downgrading to a Level 5 (superior) as the salary on my Level 6 becomes hard to manage after 1.5 - 2 seasons (especially in D4)...

Couple of things:
- Invest in your Arena - biggest bang for your buck over the long term is bleacher seats
- Be careful with the infrastructure. I'd suggest starting with an Arena upgrade (no ongoing infrastructure costs) and the Merch store upgrade because that will offset some of the infrastructure costs.

This really is a money game, which has taken me a long time to come around to understanding. If it were me, I'd go with arena upgrade > merch store level 1 with your bleacher/lower tier additions sprinkled in between. I gave up on doing big arena seat additions and instead have moved to doing ~$100-160k installments at a time.

Honestly, with trainers, it really depends on your trainees. If you've got 1 18 yr old HOF and 2 18 yr old SS, I'd sell out for the level 6 trainer and youth trainer for two seasons, maybe a third with the regular trainer. But if you're training a couple of 19-21 yr old super star/perennial all stars who are already behind, I don't know that it's worth it. My biggest win was drafting Armstead as a well developed 19 yr old HOF and pumping him. My second biggest win was drafting Brown/Lutz in the same draft (MVP/Perennial Allstar) and selling Lutz for over $1 mil, which helped me reset while still being able to stay in Div III.

I've played BB one and off for a while and burned out each time trying to do things too quick, this time around I'm treating it more as the passive game that it really is.

I ended up investing a large chunk of my recent proceeds on lower tier seats (700 seats) as I figured it's easier to build sizeable chunks of bleachers in season because of the lower price point, especially when you're in a lower tier division where income isn't as high.

I still have enough for a basic arena upgrade but will likely hold for a bit as I may sell a few more players which changes the math...

On the arena upgrades - do the upgrades significantly increase attendance? Any impact on merchandise?

I don't know that they increase attendance - I think the TV/Radio station upgrades help with that...but the arena upgrades to add to your merchandise totals...the 500k arena upgrade boosts it by just under $9000/week. So long time to get a return on your investment, but immediate boost to your merch. I'm not sure how much the other upgrades boost it by.

I'll echo what Baine said.

I found that bleachers are a good investment and help your arena give you more money for cheaper startup costs. Also I just got the 500k arena design and it's giving almost 9k a week.

If I could go back I would focus on building up both of those first, the gym and training court do provide benefit but I don't think it's as valuable as investing in the things that will make you money. The idea is to start the snowball in making money and then you will be able to afford all that you want to build faster.

For trainers I don't think it's worth it to have a level 6 trainer unless you're training some NT prospect. I think having a level 4 or cheap level 5 is plenty to train a strong team as long as you are patient with the training.
