A buzzerbeater for Florian Alcock!
In stylish fashion, the Aussie u21s have produced an upset win to launch season 29- the world cup!
The game tactics were very undecided, right up until the team entered the locker room. 2 new players entered the court for the first time, due to some players poor management throughout the finals runs. Both Tiberio Di Nucci, and Michael Bridewater stepped up to the task very nicely. One play in particular caught the coaches eye as he spent most of the week looking at next seasons crop of players. The play was a well weighted ally oop from Good Grief to Bridgewater, who with no respect for other peoples equipment, took lashes off the game ball and coating off the rim as he slammed it home. It was a sign that the season 29 team is sure to be a healthy one!
The lead changed hands several times, switching lead changes with both teams going on runs, and at one point the Aussies struck belief with them up to a 6pt lead. The tides turned and the game was looking sad mid way through the 4th with a 6-8pt deficit.
The final play saw a fade away from cockblock on the buzzer, which make no mistake, was an absolute rimmer. The text on the screen seemed to take an eternity to show up, and the assumption from the spectating few were that the shot was a long one, or that the internet bill had not been paid. The text did show in time though, and the news was good. The shot was made from just inside the elbow, possibly the longest shot Alcock has ever made ( coach has asked him not to push his luck in the future).
MVPs
3 votes- Cockblock. Game winner. Enough said.
But to pump him up a little more, he top scored, made 5-6, 12pts and 4 boards off the bench. Pulled a 17.5 rating.
2 votes- Tubby Waugh. His double double of 11pts/10boards was great, kept his man to 1-9fgs, and most intriguingly, his +/- was +13, significantly higher than anyone else on either team (next best was only +4). Very influential.
1 vote- T-mac. Had 5-6FG for his 10pts, with 5 boards and 3 blocks.
Our Asian Cup final will be this Sunday, 9:30pm AWST, vs a dangerous team in the Philippines. These guys are a class act and cannot be underestimated.
Go Aussies!!
