You know I actually forgot all about infrastructure lol... I've had a Level 1 training court since the beginning of this year, but I'll have to give some consideration to upgrading it and / or building a gym next...

Any thoughts on what would be more beneficial in the long run (Level 1 gym vs. Level 2 training court)?

I hear you about the whole relegation thing though... I'm not going to purposely tank games to remain in D4 but I've promoted twice to D3 (both times after losing handily in the D4 finals) and wasn't close to being ready for D3 either time...

I guess one other thought... has anyone found the ideal Trainer Level?

I've had a Level 6 (exceptional) trainer for the past 2-3 seasons and have been satisfied with my training progress on my key players (mostly 1 position training, occasionally 2) , but I've been toying with downgrading to a Level 5 (superior) as the salary on my Level 6 becomes hard to manage after 1.5 - 2 seasons (especially in D4)...

Couple of things:
- Invest in your Arena - biggest bang for your buck over the long term is bleacher seats
- Be careful with the infrastructure. I'd suggest starting with an Arena upgrade (no ongoing infrastructure costs) and the Merch store upgrade because that will offset some of the infrastructure costs.

This really is a money game, which has taken me a long time to come around to understanding. If it were me, I'd go with arena upgrade > merch store level 1 with your bleacher/lower tier additions sprinkled in between. I gave up on doing big arena seat additions and instead have moved to doing ~$100-160k installments at a time.

Honestly, with trainers, it really depends on your trainees. If you've got 1 18 yr old HOF and 2 18 yr old SS, I'd sell out for the level 6 trainer and youth trainer for two seasons, maybe a third with the regular trainer. But if you're training a couple of 19-21 yr old super star/perennial all stars who are already behind, I don't know that it's worth it. My biggest win was drafting Armstead as a well developed 19 yr old HOF and pumping him. My second biggest win was drafting Brown/Lutz in the same draft (MVP/Perennial Allstar) and selling Lutz for over $1 mil, which helped me reset while still being able to stay in Div III.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the input!

I've played BB one and off for a while and burned out each time trying to do things too quick, this time around I'm treating it more as the passive game that it really is.

I ended up investing a large chunk of my recent proceeds on lower tier seats (700 seats) as I figured it's easier to build sizeable chunks of bleachers in season because of the lower price point, especially when you're in a lower tier division where income isn't as high.

I still have enough for a basic arena upgrade but will likely hold for a bit as I may sell a few more players which changes the math...

On the arena upgrades - do the upgrades significantly increase attendance? Any impact on merchandise?

I don't know that they increase attendance - I think the TV/Radio station upgrades help with that...but the arena upgrades to add to your merchandise totals...the 500k arena upgrade boosts it by just under $9000/week. So long time to get a return on your investment, but immediate boost to your merch. I'm not sure how much the other upgrades boost it by.

I'll echo what Baine said.

I found that bleachers are a good investment and help your arena give you more money for cheaper startup costs. Also I just got the 500k arena design and it's giving almost 9k a week.

If I could go back I would focus on building up both of those first, the gym and training court do provide benefit but I don't think it's as valuable as investing in the things that will make you money. The idea is to start the snowball in making money and then you will be able to afford all that you want to build faster.

For trainers I don't think it's worth it to have a level 6 trainer unless you're training some NT prospect. I think having a level 4 or cheap level 5 is plenty to train a strong team as long as you are patient with the training.

Like they said, the tv and radio add to attendance(but not as much). They are great at making sure you don't have a huge attendance drop during and between seasons. Now if you're going to invest in arena upgrade, do the merchandise store. Do one at the beginning of the season and if you're lucky to have the money (a division IV to III bonus should be enough) do one at the end of the season. For the first season and half you're going to be "Why did I do this" but trust me by the mid way point of the second season with it you'll be "why did I wait so long to do this"

Trainer. No reason for you to get higher than a 5 right now. Mainly because the money you're going to have to spend to get a six or above trainer at a salary that isn't going to bankrupt you is not going to be worth it. Spending 1 to 3 mil on a trainer that will not get you anywhere close to the that kind of results before you'll end up selling him/her ain't worth it. There are a lot of things you can do with 1 to 2 million that you will have better long term benefits. You'd be better off getting an 6 plus PR - Manager for way less and see the results in increased attendance. Like Daisy said patience is the real key.

You seem to be at a good point so far. it took forever for my squad to finally stick in D. III (Season 53 ) Slowly build up your arena and merchandise store. Get a good hype man. Figure out what kind of team you want (offensive juggernault that most teams can't keep up with. defensive powerhouse that slows teams down and you grind out wins etc.) and spend the next four seasons building the core pieces and then piece here, piece there and next thing you know. You and five other terrible, wicked rivals are having multi-seasonal fun in a D III league

Ok, end of advice, I have to go and get ready. I have a date with Pio Reina tonight and you all know how much he hates being late.

Happy Ourer: “We’re here with Pio Reina outside the Linndale locker room at Shaw Memorial Gym, where Linndale prepares to do battle with Coach Stephenson and his San Dominica Warriors. Coach, first of all, how are you doing? How is the team?”

Pio Reina: “We had a really bad week. We lost a lot of ground in the playoff race. We lost two of our best interior defenders and our second best rebounder. We suffered 2 extremely disappointing losses. And still, here we are on the outside looking in with a chance to fight our way in. Happy, we’re down but we’re not out. We’re fighters, and we’re gonna fight. We’ve been here before. We’ll fight as always.”

HO: “Speaking of fights, would you care to address the rumors swirling around the team of dissension and infighting amidst the players, and also in the front office?”

PR: “No, I don’t care to, but I have to. We ---”

(voice off camera) “Sorry Coach, but I got a piece of this.”

Floyd Hearn: (walks into view) “Happy what do you want me to say? That we were happy to lose Ramon? We weren’t. That we were happy to lose Harrison? Things had to change. It’s sad, but it’s the business. Still it was on me as the team leader to step up and produce. It was on Kyle Knowles and Rod Guyton to produce. We didn’t. We got our butts handed to us. We didn’t like it. We didn’t like losing our brothers. It was a lot to handle, but we absolutely should have handled business in those games and we didn’t. Now here we are about to play our respected rivals and we know they would love nothing more than to knock us out of playoff contention. That’s not happening. Not tonight. I got a bad attitude and I’m in a worse mood. If they want to think we’re not on the same page, let them. If they want to think this team, this family isn’t united, let them. The team you watched last week, that’s not the team you’re playing tonight. Last week was tough, but despite all the losses, we come out on the other side a better team.” (Walks away, into locker room.)

HO: “Coach, that tells me a lot about how the players feel. What about the front office?”

PR: “Every coach goes through it with their general manager sooner or later. At the end of the day, I think I have it pretty good. I tell the front office what I want and what I feel we need, the front office goes and gets it as long as I’m clear about the why. Have I been happy with everything? No, but admittedly, we also picked up a couple of pretty good players when it was all over. Having said that, we’re not going to agree every time. At the end of the day, we still share the same vision.”

HO: “Coach, on to tonight’s game. What’s the plan look like?”

PR: “We’re going to rebound, defend, and take care of the basketball. We know what we want to do, but we’re also going to be smart and take what the defense gives us. Coach Stephenson’s teams don’t give you anything. The team that wins the battle of wills wins this game. We have the will, so we’re going to find a way.”

HO: “Thank you for your time, Coach, and good luck tonight.”

PR: “Thank you, Happy.”

Happy Ourer: "Hey Pio, I just wanted to thank you for letting me know about the broadcast team next season. It's great knowing that I'll be working wth Joshua again.

(hears music in the Linndale locker room)

HO: "Sounds like the guys are really loose. That's good, right?"

PR: "Yeah, Happy. It's good. Time to go get these guys ready to work though. I'll see you later!"

(inside the locker room)

Trenton Tovar: “Yo, we in last place in this play off chase
I got the butt of two teams stinking up in my face
it’s a waste if we lose, so yo we betta’ make haste
and lay the smack down right now in this play off race

Team in unison: “MOVE.. GET OUT THE WAY! GET OUT THE WAY! GET OUT THE WAY!
MOVE... GET OUT THE WAY! GET OUT THE WAY! GET OUT THE WAY!”

(Pio Reina walks into the room.)

unknown player: “Fun’s over.”

PR: “Who said that? Who’s the voice of doom and gloom?
I’m the one that carries the big stick in this here room!
Are ya’ll ready to play, or we here to do work?
If ya here to play, get out my way or you gon’ get hurt!”

Team in unison: “OOOOOHHHHH!!!!!”

PR: “Now, here’s the plan, we came to defend
I don’t wanna see that soft stuff, we ain’t here to make friends
On offense, shoot ‘em if you got em’, but you better make ‘em
Their will is strong, to win we gotta break ‘em”

Team in unison: “MOVE!!!!”

PR: “This ain’t a rollover, ya’ll gotta make ‘em
You want one of those playoff spots? Ya’ll gotta take ‘em
Get down in the trenches, get dirty in the foxhole
Last week was a speed bump, don’t turn that mess into a pothole!

Team in unison: “MOVE.. GET OUT THE WAY! GET OUT THE WAY! GET OUT THE WAY!
MOVE... GET OUT THE WAY! GET OUT THE WAY! GET OUT THE WAY!”

Laughter erupts throughout the locker room. No divisions, no cliques. Just one team. Together.

PR: “I see ya’ll ready. Stay ready. Stay loose. Let’s go, give ‘em hell and win this thing tonight. We’re not going to worry about the next game. We’re focused on this one. Fellas, we’ve been through this before. We got it done last year when we were written off. We’re gonna handle our business and we’ll get to where we want to be.”

Floyd Hearn: “Coach, what you know about this?”

PR: “Half of your teammates weren’t even born when this song was released. You were 4. What do YOU know about this?”

Pio left Floyd dumbfounded and walked away chuckling.

No characters, no story telling... none of that.

Coach Stephenson, congrats to you and your team. This is why I preach defense, rebounding, ball security and free throws. We played good degense. Your team was better. We fought on the boards. We missed 8 free throws and turned the ball over too much. It's the little things that killed us...

AND YOU DID IT IN OUR HOUSE!!!!

To make matters worse, I saw the scoreboard. We're not quite dead, but we just let a HUGE opportunity get away. If we make the playoffs we're gonna need help.

I'm pissed.
