12 ID + 16 SB is a lot cheaper, but it is still D3 level defence.

GREAT POST....my thoughts exactly.
+1 for you

my guess is that shotblocking will be more effective against guards driving to the hoop, and marginally more effective against bigs trying reverse layups.

my guess is the intended effect is to make guard skill builds emphasizing IS, driving and OD less effective and have an implied effect that guard skill build becomes more about offering an outside shooting threat.

This is enormously difficult to get right, and all credit to them if that is what they are trying to do, and they get it right.

I've said it all along that SB was never broke but I with them altering Shotblocking some I look at it this way. Shotblocking will work more as help defense and with players rotating on defense, especially with zone defense. As far as man to man defense, I think it will actually make it even stronger because of more help defense which will only make man to man defense even better against LI if you have a center with high Shotblocking.

A an example, look at the Indiana Pacers. They play man to man defense but Roy Hibbert stays in the paint as much as possible. Now, on BB, I see a base offense becoming a lot better because you could put a good outside shooting big at the center position to take the shotblocker out of the paint.

Many of you also say that a player with 12ID and 16SB would only be good enough in D.III, but I'm not so sure about that. It would depend really on what type of defense you intend to play. A 13ID an 13SB has been very successful in the past in D.II and that's with the current SB. With them altering SB more, I think a 12ID and 16SB could be even more successful. SB alters shots and any shot that is altered instantly has a lesser chance of going in so an altered shot is just as good as a defended shot. There's no proof behind this except for own ovservation of how Shotblocking works in the current engine.

What I will be more excited to see is how effective 2-3 defense becomes. It already reuired SB on guards(which nobody had so everyone said it was broke) but if they make it so that players are more effective with less SB then we could see offenses struggle to score which could lead to owners training less defense and more offense.

I think this little change could change the overall effect of how people train their players. It could be great overall because I don't think players need such high defenses as it is because it leads to less offense already overall.

That's exactly my thought about SB issue. Guards were becoming too efficient for their salary because IS is free and DR is cheap. They could make SB more cheap or IS on guards expensive; instead, they took another route and since their decision does not touch the salary formula, I think they found a great compromise.

I'm thinking to go for like a team of all 10+ SB and see what happens....

The BB that went bot had such a team, nothing special about its defensive performance what I saw back then.

7 of my 10 league players have at least a 7 in SB. this season my team isn't competitive. but still, I have the 8th best overall defense and there is no other german team with more blocks in the first and second division.

When you say punting ID, at what levels is punting? I seriously doubt you will see crazy low levels. I have seen 16 ID with 4 SB but I know there won't be any 4 ID 16 SB being built.
Let's say a team takes 40 inside shots a game. Let's say 20 of those can be blocked.

I don't think it will be half, maybe let's say 15 can be blocked, wouldn't you WANT something to stop the other 25 shots? I could see a 14 ID 15 SB being effective, but punting the skill of ID(levels below 10) could be suicide.
