A couple more guys just went up on sale. Refer to this message (227453.15).

It's the week to grab a NT player! Mansfield is gone for good. Merchandise for domestic national players is about 15-25% of their player salary if they play a national match so it's worth buying one if you want to have a national player or just to get an edge over others in your league.

If I bought Mansfield and accidentally put him on bad gameshape every week. Then that means Wazza would over take him on the "most NT games played" list.

Intriguing.

Iran vs. Australia 99 - 112 (21095)
A clash of the two unbeaten teams in their final Pool C match. Both teams having already qualified to the next stage, this match was left to decide who would take the honours to finish on top. Australia took an early control of the match and held a comfortable 57-43 lead over Iran at the main break. But Iran fought back strongly led by Kavousi (7652290) and Vahedi (13636611) in the third and finally went in front with 11 minutes left to play. With the game on the line, working as a team collectively Australia was able to break away as Iran struggled defensively giving up 32 points to 17 in the final 11 minutes of play.

Kavousi as mentioned earlier stood out with an impressive 15-20 FG, dominating with a total of 33 points and 16 boards. Vahedi helped out playing a fantastic all round role at small forward with 18 points, 6 boards and 7 dishes. Iran's shooting guard Esfahani (13798136) also played well contributing 11 points and 7 assists. However he could not stop his direct opponent who was on fire all night. Bogan (13436463) scored 20 points while only missing one field goal attempt and also had 3 assists. While Huaizheng (9469661) played a solid game in the front court with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists. All in all, Australia played a very good team game with very few standouts.

This final match of Pool C puts Australia on top. It was enough to grab the third overall seed behind China and Taiwan who had superior point differences. As a result, Australia find themselves in Pool D and will face their trans tasman rivals the Kiwis on Monday.

Australia vs. New Zealand 115 - 74 (21656)
In Australia's first match in Pool D found themselves facing off against their trans-Tasman rivals the Kiwis. Australia was looking to consolidate on their unbeaten streak while New Zealand was looking for at least a top three finish in the final group stage. It was neck and neck early. As usual Australia was just still warming up and eventually took control midway through the first quarter. Australia never looked back as they crushed the Kiwis to win every quarter of the match.

Australia was led by veteran Mansfield (8157988) who was probably the best player all night. He had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. On the other side, the Kiwis backcourt had Searles (11000721) who scored 20 points but struggled to contribute elsewhere. While Australia had a slight backcourt edge over the Kiwis, the real difference was the frontcourt where Australia easily overwhelmed the Kiwis with Duffill (10080211) and Cunming (9471882). They both were on fire easily scoring well over 20 points each and dominated the backboards with ease.

With the rival game over, Australia set its sight on the host nation Taiwan as they face off in a crucial clash to possibly decide top spot of Pool D. Stay tune tonight as it will definitely be a cracking of a match.

Taiwan vs. Australia 85 - 90 (21658)
Prior to facing Taiwan, Australia so far had a relatively smooth run in the Asia Championships. However the hosts Taiwan with home court advantage also too have been going strongly and this match could turn out to be the decider of who finishes on top of Pool D. In such an important match, Australia surprisingly brought in Vijaya-Balan Singh (18086049) for his debut match. Watch this kid as he will be a big name in Australia for seasons to come. Singh started off the bench and came on with Australia down 5-6. His energy was what Australia needed as it gave them the spark to push out to a comfortable lead at the first break 22-12. But Taiwan wasn't going to back down even with a couple of their players in foul trouble early on. Hai Wen (14240338) led the Taiwanese team back into the game winning the second quarter 24-17. This closed the gap at the main break back to a single shot, 3 points.

Australia started out strongly in the second half taking back control of the game. But Taiwan wasn't going to let their hard fought second quarter go to waste as they crawled their way back with a 11-2 run to take a 3 point lead midway through the third term. The rest of the quarter will eventuate to trading baskets as Australia's margin from the second term was trimmed down to 2 points. The final quarter will turn out to be probably Cunming's (9471882) best game so far this season for Australia. Although bricking a free throw from the pine didn't impress the coach at all. He was unstoppable scoring 12 big points as Taiwan struggle to defend against him. In the dying seconds, Australia's clutch free throw shooting and defensive efforts were able to prevent Taiwan in launching any late treys which got them over the line.

Key players for Taiwan in this match were in their front court with Hai Wen dominating with 26 points, 17 boards and 3 steals. He was not alone with Chee Choong (15117136) contributing a double double as well. Even though Taiwan controlled the boards, their sloppy ball handling from just their front court, 17 turnovers, probably cost them the game. For Australia, they were too led by their front court bigs in Duffill (10080211) and Cunming. They scored 21 and 24 points respectively although will need to work on boxing out as they only had 8 boards between them. On the defensive side, both Bowman (13434729) and Wazza (6863683) played a great game. They had a combine 5 steals and 1 block and held the Taiwanese small forwards to mediocre scoring.

This win mean that Australia have kept their unbeaten run going and have also defeated one of the favourites for the Asia Championships. Australia's next match will be up against Macau.
