As long as no one else had the reserves to do a Crockers, I could buy up and take the championship this season. I don't want to though, I have better things to do :P

FYI, starting 5 salary for Crockers last year heading into the finals was something ridiculous, $700K? The next highest was northcote, who, after also doing a similar tactic of buying up towards the end, had a team (thats TEAM) salary of about $550k. Both unsustainable (? dont quote me here) salaries for a seaon in Div II, and crockers took the cake. well done to him.
AND it was the greatest most well executed form of this tactic that ive ever seen in the game. Took most people by surprise, and now he is 4-2 in ABBL and probably will be there for a while now. So good on him. im green with envy, i really am, because thats what everyone strives for. ABBL

I definitely agree with you there, best execution of a common tactic that I have seen and i've seen it a few times in this league alone now! HA was one of the first and he nearly ruined himself. In fact the majority of ABBL promotees have had some sort of late buy in ahead of playoffs.

$700k is too much to sustain in Div 2 but is probably a fair salary to avoid relegation in the ABBL comfortably. $550k is sustainable, last season that was about my salary and I maintained it for the entire season, without making a loss. Didn't make much profit and I didn't train at all or put money into the draft either. My staff were all minimum wage, until injuries ruined me mid season, then I bought a lvl 4 doc. Will be stinging from last season for quite a while I think!

Well I'd developed my team and was at a peak. So I had no real training worthy players and my squad was ready to win a title. Unfortunately I forgot about the promoting golden rule and I didn't save enough money before hand to buy in a monster or two. My team was maxed for Div 2 last season, no way could I have held a larger wage for the entire season.

Either that or get your tank on! I hope this doesn't come across as rude or arrogant as I am just trying to be helpful but in my opinion there are three winning strategies.

1) Win the league or at least have a good shot at winning. Close game losses and injuries can't be helped but go all out.
2) Have a cheap/developing team and make good money each week while training (and thereby improving the value to your team of your trainee assets and so even losses contribute something) aiming for 3rd-6th.
3) Tank, go for last, get a franchise changing draft pick like LeBron or Rose or Howard. Make $200,000 or more each week. Do difficult training while you are doing it so train your Cs in OD or PA or train IS on your SGs while that training doesn't hurt your team's prospects.

Spending a fortune to only get relegated anyway is what I did in season 12 and it is the worst thing I have done. One of the beauties of this game is you can play in infinite ways and obviously it is your team and you can do whatever you want to as the manager, but my humble opinion is if you are going to get wins then do it and if not sell to the salary floor. As little Yoda says, "Do or do not, there is no try."

I just can't get over how different this season is to last. Why oh why did we all go for it in the same season? I'm sitting second and making $180k a week, while training 2 18yo, superstar guards. At this rate 5th spot looks impossible unless I tanked to get there. Interesting to see who is planning a big buy in, I know someone will, time will tell.
