ah I understand what you mean now, and yes I completely agree. Personally I think this could be solved by having prize money for each position. So 1st would get x dollars, and it would get lower with each finishing spot. But this would not be linear, so finishing 5th would be similar in prize money to finishing 4th (as 4th gets extra games and extra income from playoffs) but finishing 6th would be drastically lower than finishing 5th so that people aim to finish higher up in the rankings.

I think that a good way to make people avoid throwing games to finish in 6th is a relegation tournament. So instead of measuring up the opponent in your series, all teams that finish 6th and 7th go into a tournament. Randomly drawn similar to the Cup, that way there is a real chance that you will demote. As it is right now teams can figure out who they will play and are 95% sure that finishing sixth won't get them relegated, it is a chance worht taking. Make it really risky and all of a sudden the leagues will be far more competitive.

Sorry to go off topic :)

hmm I like the idea, but if you are going to do that for relegation then you would have to do it for playoffs to I think. Also would probably require a lot of coding. Wouldn't my idea be simpler and still achieve the same? Or do you think the additional prize money would not be enough incentive?

Cash would not work unless it was really significant amounts.

1st- $500,000
2nd- $450,000
3rd- $400,000
4th- $350,000
5th- $300,000
6th- $50,000
7th- $25,000

A system like that may work, but it makes the difference between the elite and the average teams even bigger. That is not ideal imo.

And as for the playoffs going into a tournament, I disagree. Leave the top four teams to battle it out as is. Just throw all the 6th and 7th place teams into the tournament. As I mentioned the teams that are throwing games, know that they are likely not going to lose in the relegation. A tournament style system also evens the field in some ways. There is a big difference in many leagues between the confrences talent wise. So the best teams don't always win, there are many good teams that have relegated, but are significantly better than alot of teams in the division above them.

My team is a great example. Right now I am 4th, realistically I will finish 4th, 5th or 6th. If I were to throw some games to finish 6th I would face a team that I just beat by 60 points. Not really a big worry about facing relegation, as in all likelyhood I would win it pretty easily.

Okay I understand. How would the tournament style work? So 6th place gets to draw a 7th place? Or would it be that all 6th and 7th teams get put in a hat and get drawn out randomly against another 6th or 7th place finisher and the loser of each match relegates?

This would definitely stop me throwing games, unless my team was ridiculously good and I knew I was only a small chance of relegating.

Well either way would work. I like just a complete crap shoot random draw, as I think it is a really big deterant.

A tournament could also involve multiple opponents in a ladder system. If that was the case the bottom teams could also be moved around, so they would end up in a different league.

I'm sorry but you got me all wrong what i sad not to trow the game but get some minutes in for the bench get some good 2 position training and when the relegation playoff comes play your home games with the starters and the away game with the subs to give them some experience plus you get about one arena full in revenue and also the other team gets something in return for going under.Does that seem unfair or even trowing a game.To me seems like good work with the current game engine.

Thats a pretty common strategy when the higher ranked team is a lot better then the lower ranked one. As you said you get the extra income and theres only the smallest risk of it backfiring.
