Don't pay for top-of-the-line potential. It's too expensive, and as a new team you probably don't have the top-flight trainer necessary to exploit it. Look for guys in the "star" range. They are inexpensive to buy and have sufficient room for growth.

If you are training inside players who'll want to play inside tactics like GM-kozlodoev said. I play inside tactics but train guards and focus most of my training on pressure and passing. I have been pretty successful with those kind of guards when playing inside. I would like for guards with outside d, passing, handling first and then jump shot, jump range and driving second.
