GAME 1: Bringing Sexy Back v CROCKERS (42320329)

A battle of inside tactics didn’t disappoint in this encounter; however, the CROCKERS had too much quality depth for Bringing Sexy Back. While opposing centres and power forwards matched up okay scoring the majority of their teams’ points and rebounds, individual efforts by Calugas and Javadov of the CROCKERS proved the difference. Winning every quarter, the CROCKERS pulled away to a 26 point win.

GAME 2: Brisbane Thunder v Warren Bulls (42320326)

The Bulls would have relished a 1 point lead after the 1st quarter but the game turned into a massacre from here on out as the Thunder sounded pouring on 56 points to 19 in the next 2 quarters. They pushed on in the final quarter to claim a 40 point win.

2 – S. Faka’osifolau (BT) 28 pts, 7 STEALS! 12.0 rating (7 steals in a FCP is one thing but Leeroy played Patient!)

GAME 3: TeamAkuma v Maggots (42320325)

On paper these two teams looked very even and well-matched across their starting fives. The Maggots drew first blood taking a very handy 11 point lead into the second quarter. However, this poor start by TeamAkuma seemed to spur them into action. TeamAkuma had managed to turn that 11 point deficit into a 1 point lead at halftime. From there on in TeamAkuma slowly pulled away and their 34 point final quarter silenced those Maggots’ fans who still sat watching this one.

2 – T. Nguyen (M) 30 pts, 10 reb, 5 asts 12.5 rating
1 – L. Chaulet (TA) 10 pts, 13 reb 14.0 rating

Could have given Ngyen (PF in Low Post tactics) the votes but as an SF, thought Abimbola deserved them. Likewise, there were several candidates for the 1 vote but Chaulet had the better shooting percentage and less turnovers.

GAME 4: Skyhookz v Kynlala Knights (42320330)

The Skyhookz tried a patient offense in this one to limit the scoring of the Knights. It didn’t work. In fact, it didn’t seem to make any difference at all as the Knights piled on the points each quarter to turn this game into a bloodbath. The Knights winning by 44 points!

1 – J. Lopes Couto (KN) 25 pts, 5 reb, 4 asts 11.5 rating (I know we said players had to play a minimum 26 minutes to get votes, but Lopes Couto’s 25 min stats were good enough for me)

GAME 5: Shepparton Shooters v Coin Collectors (42320327)

An interesting encounter where both teams got the tactics right (although if you believe that M2M is the best then they both got it wrong! lol). The Shooters played a LI/3-2 against the Collectors’ Motion/2-3. More interesting was the result given Viojan’s dominance in recent memory. While Viojan once again put up impressive numbers (25 pts, 13 reb) the combined efforts of the Collectors’ big men did enough to limit his damage. Added to this, the Collectors’ longer range shooting paid dividends, Antunan the most impressive with 35 pts, 4 asts with 50% shooting or better from inside and outside. While the Shooters held a 6 point lead going into the final quarter, the Collectors piled on 41 points to secure a strong win. Or should I say upset?

GAME 6: Mad Rangas v Moorditj Magick (42320328)

This game was always going to be a win for Rad’s boys. With a strong starting five, the Rangas lead at every change. Opening up an 11 point lead at the first change, they were up 16 points going into the final change. A 26-17 final term helping them secure a comfortable 25 point win in the end.
