You're right about some players being more physical than others, this has indeed been confirmed by BB-Charles, but I don't believe the amount of shots is based on a hidden attribute. I think the amount of driving compared with handling and the ability to shoot decided the amount of shots. That would make a lot more sense then a 'hidden' attribute in this case. I believe driving adds chances, handling and shooting decide if the shot will be taken. I also think that shotblocking is the opposite of driving, so that would lower the chances of the opponent.

I don't know about that...

I wouldn't be surprised if there's hidden aspects in every part of the game. For example, my pg has prolific passing bordering on sensational and he only averages 3.5 assists per game. I've seen other guys with far less in terms of passing skill have much more assists. There's definitely got to be something to that.

That kind of difference is possible, but i think that relies on the players skills and the tactics used, for instance, when playing motion a point guard won't give that much assists, because he'll shoot a lot more, when he has got the ball. but you'll probably notice that your center will give more assists. Whwn you're playing for instance look inside the player willprobably give more assists. But when the receiver isný very good at shooting, the player giving the pass woný get a assist on his name. So you see there are a lot of possibilities.

Like i said, i have compared a lot of cases where players had the same skill set and more or less same opponent strength and include different tactics. On top of that i have compared low driving vs high driving players. It does seem that driving has an impact on the amount of shots, but not entirely. I have had several players with mediocre driving, attempting over 20 shots on average. Where as some sensational drivers taking around 10. This is also the case when i had a mediocre driver, trained to sensational driving. The shot attempts increased but not drastically. Which i come to the conclusion that several factors affects the amount of shot attempts. Team chemistry, experience, driving and most importantly the hidden factor. Why do i think the hidden factor is the most important? I believe that ever player has a base amount of attempting shooting. It will increase or decrease based on driving, experience and your team members( their shooting attempts.) I mean they can't all shoot 20 attempts. It will probably divided among the players. :)

I've introduced the hidden factor, before it got confirmed by the BB, 3-4 seasons ago and called it "personality" factor. Which would explain the amount of fouls and the amount of shot attempts. Back then, i also analyzed a fair amount of games in order to back up the hidden factor argument. After 4 seasons I'm convinced that the amount of attempted shots by a player is indeed linked to the hidden "personality" factor. I've traded a lot of players in the past seasons and i have a fairly good idea what to look for in a player based on statistics and other data, in order to figure out how they'll foul or shoot :)

Also you might wonder why some players tend to shoot more than other players with the same skill set. That, as well, is linked to the hidden attribute.

I think the same.

Going back to the foul problem:
We all know that a player in foul trouble will defend less effectively. Do you think this is also reflected in the team ratings? Personally I doubt it.

Okay, well then that should be the only explanation. So you could say that when buying players, you should look at the boxscore too.

Yeah the boxscore is definiately important. Basicly I just won't buy players who average more than 3 PFs a game, except when they are really special hehe.

I think it's probably the same as any other skill, with a range of maybe 0-20 or maybe less. I do think that there are different kinds of hidden attributes though. I don't think there is one hidden attribute or factor that explains the behavior of the player. There are no players that shoot a lot and foul a lot. There are ones that shoot a lot and ones that foul a lot, which makes me believe that they are affected by different kinds of hidden attributes.

@ arsjitekt

I definitely recommend checking boxscores before you decide to sign a player. I for one believe that boxscores give more information on the player than the skillset they have. The reason for this is that i have owned some players with a respectable skillset out performing players with a sensational skillset. The reason for this i do not know, but because of this I spend more time analyzing the player's boxscores from several seasons. On top of that you'll find out how he'll play on average at your team, taking into account the difference in divisions, ofcourse. Let's say the player you want to sign shoots 60% in a division II of spain. He'll probably shoot the same % at your team in division II. Maybe a bit less if he gets transfered to a Div I environment. So you'll need to do a bit of comparing in order for you to get a more accurate idea of how the player will play when gets transfered to you.

What i have noticed is that the higher the skill of a player, doesn't necessarily means he'll be better. I have no doubt any of you have noticed some players having better ratings than players with a better defense skill. Also i have seen players with, let's say, prominent inside shot, shoot 60% while a player with marvelous Inside shot soot less than 50%. I have ofcourse taken into account the opponent, division, skillset etc. Also i've seen many examples of players who will shoot the same FG%, throughout several seasons, even though they went from mediocre to sensational Inside shot. You might say it has to do with the opponent. They probably have trained ID and neutralizes the IS training. What i believe is that IS shot doesn't try to increase your FG%, but rather maintain the FG% the player has assigned to. What does this mean? Another hidden attribute? maybe. It's just a theory but i believe that Inside D tries to lower your opponents FG% whereas IS trains to maintain their FG%. So basically, IS tries to counter the effect of ID. This theory sounds flawed because you are not able to increase your FG%, but the opponent is able to decrease it. The main argument of mine, that backs up this theory is that i rarely see players shoot 30% in season 2, but because of training, shoot 55% in season 6. This doesn't make this theory solid whatsoever, but does raise questions. At least it does for me :) There are a lot of factors that might affect FG% and any other phenomenon, but i can't help and blame it on hidden attributes :P How many there are, what they do, what kind of value they have, i have no clue. But i strongly believe that players shouldn't be judged solely on the skillset you see, like most managers tend to do. I sometimes just completely ignore the skillset and purchase a player based on his boxscores. The problem is that i value players differently than the rest of the BB community. That's why I don't have a nice daytrade profit anymore :P

I might be over analyzing it though.

:Note: what i mean by skillset is. JS,ID,JR, Passing etc... the whole package.
