In my brief experience, I think player game ratings are one of the best indicators of value, second only to salary. Both stats need to be placed in context, but I look at those much more carefully than, say, player potential. But I am new to this.

Enthusiasm plays heavily in Game Rating. I have picked up players from the TL with strong Game Shape, but my enthusiasm was significantly higher than the prior owner, I've seen a gain of 2 full points in rating with him playing for my more enthusiastic team. My players in week one average around 7 to 7.5 rating, the best players I have in 2 weeks later are at enthusiasm 9 are around 8.5-10.5 in rating. Game Shape also affects this rating, but it doesn't appear to be as dramatic a change when comparing 7 to 9 in Game Shape. Maybe 1 full point of rating.
