There seems to be a theme in this league of D4 teams promoting and trashing everybody else - First L&P, then Dong, now Demon Hoosiers? Seems riding the promotion wave is the new cool thing to do. Of course they aren't undisputed, I mean I eeked out a win over Dong and Hooisers has a ways to go, but normally you'd expect the veteran teams to keep the D4 promoters down for a bit wouldn't ya?

I did the same thing a cpl seasons ago. Went from 4 to 3 to 2 in 2 seasons. Of course you failed to mention the final part of this formula, those teams tend to go right back to 3 after a season in 2

Dong is an obvious exception

I stayed in IV until I thought there was a chance I could come up and at least do some damage. I suspect that most III level leagues I'd have plowed through with the squad I have now. There seems to be a several team freak out going now with several teams rolling the dice on more expensive squads. I think I actually came up a season or so early.

L&P actually went 4 to 3 to 2 to the NBBA in three seasons... so...

Either way, crazy league. I kinda know your guys' situation. Me and Dong went all out last year, looks like you may have more than just two dogs this time around. Either way I'll be watching, hopefully after I draft the 5/5 A rated rookie I just scouted I'll drop right back to III.6 and be home again :)

No idea who that is, before I got here. However, in my experience in the three other times I have been in III it is common for a team to shoot from IV to II then back to III

I believe it, it's happening to me right now. Admittedly I took one extra season, but mostly the same. Actually I feel like if I had promoted that first season I'd have been in much better shape to compete in D2. Last season I had to dip into the red to make it out of here... Looks like one of you may have to do the same.

Yeah, I am starting to think that much like many other management games, the slingshot approach is the way to go. I am trying to calculate if I can amass more money faster by winning in IV with a softer payroll or hanging on in III and pissing my fans off while spending more on payroll and charging more for tickets is the better way. Its pretty boring building funds for a slingshot, but it seems more effective than grinding and praying

Unless IV changes, it's easier to amass money there. That said, you can still need some pretty significant bank to get out of there. My approach was 1) get a couple good trainees that would produce after a couple seasons 2) rely on underpaid old guys and a career extension coach. Ideally, you'd hit that league above once the trainees are legit starters in the league above, and have the bankroll for the starters. At that point, you can move the old guys to backup positions. My approach largely worked, except that my trainees weren't ready yet. Now, I've had to replace players at virtually every position, so I don't have nearly the money I had hoped for with a view towards II. I'm pretty sure I could get out of here this season if I really want, but survival in II is another story. If I don't get out this season, I'll probably do a 3 or 4 season rebuild.
