my path to enlightenment:

while developing a team in the bush leagues, i came to the same conclusion as you -- what good is a maximum salary of 100,000 when i think a player earning 8500 a week is a star?

as you rise, though, you will come to see how precisely the labels fit. at some point, i figure upper div. iii. lower div. ii, maybe well into div. ii, you will see that your starters will be making in the 20,000s -- just your starters, you know, the guys that are ok good, nothing thrilling. your star will be maybe twice that, league mvps a bit more. this is my league (div. iii). i just looked over the brazilian champ, and his highest paid player is paid twice my entire squad's payroll.

it is a significant moment when you go to the TL and on the preferences for the search, you decide you can not accept lower than, say, "star" or "allstar".

No, as mentioned even doing one position training you can get 2-3 trainees 48+ minutes a week. I am a big hater on one position training though! With 2 position training you can get 5 trainees their 48 minutes very easily and they still pop. In looking at the training speed analysis threads most of their information says that one position is faster by maybe a week than 2 position training. Granted that could be huge over the course of the life of a particular player, but for your team 5 guys getting those minutes, in my opinion, is much more valuable over the long run. You could keep the ones you want and sell off the ones you dont, keep all 5 and have a very deep team, the possibilites with that are more than getting 2 and maybe 3 guys 48 minutes a week.

Why do some players spontaneously drop a statistic? Are they getting old or something?

Dropping stamina is normal. If they drop in something else, then they are getting too old. If you need him playing for your team, I suggest you get a trainer with career extension speciality. I doubt you would need it in div.V though.

Okay. My SG Uros Srna dropped in passing. He is 33 (2836808). Nuts. He has averaged 17 pts a game.

I generally agree with you but, two thoughts:

1) The amount of training it take to get from $5k to $20k is way more than the number of skill increases it takes to get from $20k to $35k. It's only a half dozen additional skill points at some skills to push a 20k guy to 30k+.

2) I have a starter potential PG who has a really nice skill set but is nearing his cap. It kind of sucks after three seasons of training to have to move on. It's a bit frustrating.... it would have been worth an extra few hundred thousand dollars to be able to get another full season of training out of him.


Most teams don't need three or more MVP level guys, but I think it's reasonable for every team to have one long term trainee with MVP or better potential.

i dont think 99% of players really need anyone with mvp potential

on the other hand low potential such as bench warmer or 6th man can be really crippling

all star is an excellent compromise they dont cost anywhere as much as those mvp players and how many teams are going to be upset with a player who caps at 65k

if you are a new team i think you can go even lower maybe as low as starter as they can contribute still in div2 on a 24k salary

check the tl you can find very similar players but the 19 year old with mvp potential will be selling for at least double the similar 19 year old with starter potential

In my opinion, it's not really worth buying that career extension speciality trainer. If you have the money you can ofcourse. He will drop more in skills. Your overall ratings are not bad. Uros is nothing special, so no point in building a team around him:) So try to get lvl3-4 cheap trainer and some decent young players. You can buy older players as slot fillers until you have your young guns in training. Remember 30 year old players might help you a few seasons before droping in skills.

Yeah, I like Uros, but he is not really a long-term integral part of the team. But I like his last name :)

I have a level 2 trainer. Should I get a better one? I am already paying him more than even my most productive player, and I am still getting 2-3 pops a week.

On the "Manage my Team" screen it looks like I get one more league game a and a scrimmage before the playoffs. I still want to train rebounding on some of my young PF and C. I hear there is like a game drought where there aren't any games and people train Stamina and FT because they are dependent on minutes. When does that happen? Do I still have a week or two to train other stats? Sorry for the noob question, but I am 2nd in my league and might get promoted if I do well.

If i were you, i would sell him at a good price first, employ a better trainer immediately (choose level 4 initially, target level 5 two seasons later).

The next step is to wait draft done and review your own training plan based on what players you picked.

If you have spare time to spend, try to purchase some "below market price" players during playoff & off-season period, because most BB players is not active on spending these days, thus you may find good players at competitive price, THEN you may sell them at higher price when new season starts (BB players like to switch their squad to suit their training plan in new season, bidding war may happen).

P.S. young age (18-year-old is the best) & long-lasting trainable (potential is star or above) are both important when looking for "below market price" players

My trainer also get's paid more than my highest paid player. I think lvl4 is cheap enough for his work (remember there are 7 levels, 6 of them can be hired, minimal is appointed only when you fire your current trainer with no new assigning). Train FT or stamina when you have 2 games a week. If you go far in playoffs you still get 3 games a week (with finals tiebreaker).
